KIPP Austin Collegiate was a learning experience. My beliefs, moral values, relationships, and friendships were influenced attending here for the past four years. I would say this school is decent; I do think that the academics is by far perfect for students who want a chance to attend college or to be prepared for the next part of their lives. Counselors are by far the most helpful in understanding what life would be like after high school, and they are the people that most students will rely on if there is any circumstance that could be troubling them. I would, also, state that I wish I didn't learn most of beliefs the way I did attending in this school; I went through very stressful times attending in this school, and my mental health was heavily impacted due to the environment. Thankfully, I persevered through my obstacles, but I did hope that the AP's were more understanding when it comes to their student's well-being. Especially those undergoing mental health issues.
KIPP is a school that gives their students a lot of support when it comes to post-secondary plans. Whether it is college, workforce, or military, KIPP is there to guide you and help you know your options. The staff ensures that every student has a plan and is prepares to meet success after graduating. As a student, this can be very stressful. However having people that are so dedicated in supporting you makes the process so much more manageable.
At KIPP, one thing the teachers really stress on you is going to college. From Day 1, they talk about college or at least mention going to college by telling us where they went to college. Every teacher has a pennant from the college/university they went to, so it's pretty cool to see the diversity of colleges they've been to. I am in the school's steel drum band, which is pretty neat. I was originally going to try and join the school band, but I had no experience with any of the instruments there, and I saw the school steel drum band perform at a concert that my brother was in. I liked how the steel drums sounded, so I decided to join the steel drum band instead, and it was a great decision. Our music teacher is very supportive, encouraging, hard-working, and overall an enjoyable person to be around. He makes class fun and engaging, and this goes for the great majority of the teachers I've had in KIPP Austin Collegiate over the past few years. I would rate this school very good.
