The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, also known as HSPVA, is best known for its involvement in arts in general. But much more lies beneath this school’s surface. The school’s academics are amazing, trumping many other schools year after year. Their main goal is to get students into the great colleges they want to. The student community is very diverse and welcoming, and there is a tremendous amount of culture within the walls of the old school. There are over forty clubs- which is quite a lot considering the school’s roughly 700 students. More clubs are added and replaced every year- if you don’t see anything you like one year, wait until the next one. Or, better yet, start your own! I absolutely love this school! It's a huge community, the teachers and the administration R all extremely student-friendly. That actually care about us! The academics is hard, but teachers really want to help you.

Overall, AMAZING school with bountiful opportunities for students pursuing the arts! As a junior visual artist, I have had access to classes I would never have taken at a regular high school such as welding or wood shop. My only critique is that the school is definitely always a high-stress environment. Balancing art with academics is very harsh and demanding as each course expects the best most all the time; this is especially prevalent due to our new school. We have so much more amenities, but that also means more output to "validate" our positions almost. Also, don't expect any sports, they are basically nonexistent. But, I mean, we do have a fitness room fifth floor and an awesome new shop so ehh... good trade off, I guess.

We will be moving to a new school come January- perfect for a fresh start involving the community, culture, and clubs.
