Rating 4.2 out of 5 306 reviews
HSPVA is a place for Visual artists, Theater artists , vocalists, instrumentalists, creative writers , and dancers to perdue their artistic dreams through experienced staff, a state of the art building in downtown Houston, and opportunities to have your artwork shared with the world. Our school has won three Grammys, dozens of presidencial youngarts awards, and our alumni have been featured in the MFAH, Grey's Anatomy, Jones Hall, the Wortham Center, Discovery Green, Scholastic, and the Voice. Our most famous alumni being Beyonce! Our building is equiped with sound rooms, a print room, galleries, technology labs, large outdoor patios, recording equipment, piano rooms, lounging areas, and even metalworking equipment. I have been very lucky to go to this school, and I have had my work featured in the Contemporary Arts Museum and in the Scholastic Gold Key Awards because of the excellent education that this school provides.
I am a junior at HSPVA and I am VERY happy with both the education I am receiving and the environment in which I am receiving it. HSPVA offers both on-level and advanced academic classes, which allows students to nurture both their artistic craft as well as their academic interests and needs. HSPVA also has TONS of clubs to choose from and join, which opens the door for friendships across departments! The only downside is that we don't actually have any sports teams, so students do lack that aspect of the "normal" high school experience.
Kinder HSPVA is a wonder pre-professional arts program for the youth. While the school focuses on the art areas, those being dance, theater, vocal, creative writing, instrumental, and visual arts departments, they still teach how crucial it is to balance those with your academic workload. The art areas create bonds amongst students while also building a strong foundation in said specialty, preparing them to further pursue a career in the arts.
Other than the high level education the students receive, the culture of the school is very nourishing. The building is filled with like-minded people, causing the cross-department collaboration to bore astounding productions like the All-School Musicals and Diversity series. From both students and faculty, there is a strong passion and drive for learning and teaching, which creates a well-rounded atmosphere for everyone.
