This school hasn’t changed much over the past five and a half years. They did, however, implement a new system which are the Ranches. That’s about it. Since corona started, most of my classes have been moved online. I believe that I have taught myself better than the teachers. There are a few teachers that genuinely care about students outside of the classroom and will go beyond for them. As for the rest, they don’t really care. As far as college readiness goes, I wouldn’t have been prepared had I not taken a couple of Dual Enrollment classes. Most of the students end up stuck in Kimball because this high school failed to prepare them for the real world.
The curriculum, I feel, did not prepare me for college. Consequently, during my first year in college I had to adjust to the intensity of academic workload/expectations. There are only a few teachers in Kimball Jr/Sr High who genuinely try to help their students succeed. The extracurriculars are decent, but there tends to be some bias as to where some funds (or support) go, such as sports. During my time there, the amount of role models was scant. Bullying was not a rare occurrence; often, it was not met with sufficient disciplinary action. Furthermore, drugs became a prevalent issue to the point that cops were involved (at some point a school-wide search with drug dogs occurred). Nevertheless, students here can be successful. Ultimately it's up to them to make the most of what the school offers while advocating to make it better.
There are certain parts I like and dislike about this school. There are a lot of activities to do and quite a few clubs to join. Some teachers truly care about the well-being of students as well. I’ve witnessed a lot of bullying in my time there, whether it was subtle or not. The academics there are okay. There are some teachers who don’t truly teach students and just tell them to figure it out on their own. To be honest, all the focus is set on the sports team. I feel that they need to spread out the money for resources for other activities/clubs. Because of the lack of money for other activities, the students often end up paying a lot of money.
