I am a parent of two Kihei Charter students. Overall, we've been very happy with the school. The curriculum delivery is very different from a DOE school. KCS students have more projects and presentations than their peers in most DOE schools. I like that all the assignments are online so I can easily keep tabs on my kids and their work. After school, kids can get help with their homework in open lab which is great! A new building and more sports/arts offerings will only make this school standout even more. One major con is there isn't a very active PTA.

I’ve been at Kihei Charter school since grade 2 and I plan to stay till graduation. I’m a junior this year, the school has been good enough for me to stick with it. We just moved into a brand new building. The building is really nice, however the interior is severely lacking. We have old plastic tables and used desks in our class rooms. There is a serious lack of funding.
The class room sizes are small and most of the teachers are hands on and will work with you to make sure you succeed. The school work is project based and challenges students in a new way.
The student body lacks minoritys and school spirit.
The school board and the “principles” have poor communication skills and finding out the school year schedule or arranging events for the school takes far too long. They are resistant to accepting students or parents help to put on events and yet will not do it themselves.
I like the atmosphere that is provided to the students to encourage future career options as well as having a very accepting school community. The teachers are amazing and strive to have close relationships with students to ensure that each of them succeeds. I hope that soon the school's facilities and sports teams will have more to work with because as of now, those resources are seriously lacking.
