When I transferred to Kihei Charter School during my sophomore year, I thought it was going to be like all the other schools I have been at, with all the cliche groups, bullying, but it wasn’t. On the contrary, everyone asked like a family. I felt it was due to everyone knowing each other since elementary/middle school. I also felt free to express myself and my feelings. In all honestly, when my parents were doing the transfer paperwork, I dreaded to go to that school. After a couple months of being in that school, I was glad that my parents put me in that school. In Kihei Charter, I am able to push myself beyond my limits and try clubs/sports that I would have never done. Since this is a small school, when you do sports or are in a club, you are able to prove yourself without having to be in the shadow of another student. You are able to choose who you want to be without the judgment of others.
I am a parent of two Kihei Charter students. Overall, we've been very happy with the school. The curriculum delivery is very different from a DOE school. KCS students have more projects and presentations than their peers in most DOE schools. I like that all the assignments are online so I can easily keep tabs on my kids and their work. After school, kids can get help with their homework in open lab which is great! A new building and more sports/arts offerings will only make this school standout even more. One major con is there isn't a very active PTA.
I like how they care about their students like no other teacher does in other High, Middle, and Elementary Schools are in one district so they all treat us like family if our parents ever come late to pick any student up from school the office staff offer food and sometimes cookies from their left over lunches or snacks they love us and take care of us they will even stay with you at school until the students parents come pick them up I love Kihei charter school So much. We are like one big family over at school everyone enjoys going to school since they Signed up for Kcs
