Kettle Run is great and would be rated higher if it weren't for some glaring issues. The teachers are great, there are some I could even see teaching at a college level. However, there are still issues. There is a massive overemphasis on STEM to the point where I've watched some of the most intelligent people I know get treated like second-class students just because they prefer politics or history over comp sci or chem. This manifests itself mainly in the Governor's program which is just mostly mediocre STEM students getting treated like geniuses for half the day (to be fair a few genuinely are). There is absolutely no equivalent for liberal-arts students and this absolutely reflects itself in the self-perception and college admissions of these individuals. The excuse for college prep here is a representative for a community college getting paid for shilling dual enrollment and actively undermining students’ ability to get into schools to get them to go to said college.

Of my three-and-a-half years at this high school, my overall experience has been somewhat pleasant. Of course, different teachers bring different challenges and attitudes, but for the most part, the school has a positive atmosphere. Most of the teachers and staff within the complex are not only willing but also eager to help students with any potential issues. The school is known for its musical prowess, okay meals, and average if not above average academic integrity. With the new addition to the Kettle Run family, Earl the cat, and new principle as of the past academic school year the school remains to thrive. My three-and-a-half years at this high school have been blessed with the few gems of teachers I've had the opportunity to learn from, and tainted with others. Overall, I know I can look back on this period of my life with a positive outlook.
Kettle Run High School offers a safe and clean environment. The teachers are well qualified. There are many opportunities for students in a variety of areas. Many of the teachers are positive role models and mentors. They could improve student relations. I feel they should try to better understand the pressures and emotional needs of the students. Instead of detention, they could offer yoga and meditation. They would benefit from a safe place to talk about their home life or interpersonal relationships. A tough love approach is not always a good way to handle these challenges. Kids these days need a safe place to land and that can't always get that at home.
