For a school in such a small town, the variety of classes amazes me. It really gives students a chance to discover themselves through classes like engine repair and welding to culinary and anatomy. With such a vast difference in the classes that I was able to be a part of I was more easily able to figure out what I want to do with my life. Another benefit of a school this size is that no one really feels like a stranger, especially the teachers, who genuinely seem like they care about our wellbeing. I am extremely grateful that I was able to attend high school at Kayhi!
I loved it because my mom and grandma graduated from there and curriculum is great! It also has many college readiness opportunities such as classes that prepare you for it and help you receive scholarships. It is also a close knit community so the sense of family is very strong. They also had a lot of work type classes that help you decide what you wanted to do. They also encouraged classes that help you with finance, taxes, and other adult responsibilities so you would not be going on your own blinded. .I also loved it because everyone was very involved with sport games and other student activities.
Ketchikan High School, also known as Kayhi, isn't just a high school to me. It's a place where memories and relationships are made. The teachers and staff at the school go out of their ways to help students achieve their goals, but also create new ones. Every single day when I walk into that building I am greeted with smiles and good mornings. At Kayhi there are many clubs and activities that a student can join such as Pep Club, Rotary Interact, Chess Club, etc. Heartbreaking to think that in less than a year I will be ending my journey at Kayhi, and will be continuing it somewhere else. Go Kings!
