I have 2 students at Kennedy currently. Both are challenged academically and I like the wide variety of course offerings. Both are involved in varsity sports and social clubs. I have found the teachers and staff to be caring and they have made excellent friends.
We have sent 2 children through this school. The best word to me is community. As in every school, there are issues and a bit of a shake up with some social issues. I think it important to see how the school handles the issues because things will always arise. We got a new amazing principle and the school is stronger for it. Kennedy teachers to the whole student. All types of learners are welcome and given the same opportunities to thrive. We personally have seen our children thrive at Kennedy through the wide variety of classes, activities and support form the community.
Our daughter started as a freshman this year at Kennedy. Unlike the public schools in our area Kennedy made every effort to get the students back in school and often provided for small group interactions. We have decided to pull our son out of public middle school next year to make sure he is prepared for High School at Kennedy in fall 2022. We feel that our daughter did not “loose” a year of school. Our public school 7th grader definitely lost a year.
We love this school! It has been a great experience, even during the pandemic. We are so impressed with the education and the community. Highly recommended!
Garbage. Lack of respect, care, or consideration for individual families. Egotistical teachers and a staff more money hungry than willing to work. Disgusting place.
Kennedy Catholic is all about the Lancer Family. The school focuses on making its students feel at home and welcomed. The student-first mentality is apparent from its teachers. The teachers always make sure its students are doing okay, especially now. Even with Covid-19, the school has offered many activities and resources to help with student morale in this unprecedented time. The level of academics ranges from standard to College level and AP, with excellent teachers providing the education. The sports programs at the 2A school provide 4A competition for its student-athletes. Many programs like football, women's soccer, men's water polo, and baseball have found much success in recent years. The arts programs also offer many supplies for its students including but not limited to: art materials, band equipment, theater set supplies, and more. Overall, Kennedy Catholic is a great school focused on student involvement and pride.
Attending Kennedy Catholic High School has been interesting, to say the least. Freshman year, I already felt like I understood the school's values, I knew they focused more on our football team than anything else, and I knew the administration would pick and choose the battles they wanted to fight. Issues I experienced in my junior year were, how people of color were viewed upon at school and how LGBTQ+ rights for staff and students were represented. Addressing situations involving race and sexuality is simple, if you make enough noise you will be heard, but from what I've seen and experienced first-hand, I find it difficult to get justice or a fair response for any unjust situation that has occurred at my school. Aside from racial tension and lack of representation at Kennedy, I believe that all I've experienced from this point on helped me as a POC, to not turn a blind eye and discuss problems with classmates and staff about POC community representation instead of doing nothing.
There as not many supporting resources for students of color who want to achieve higher academic standards. Much of the school money and resources go towards the athletics department and nothing else. I did participate in a sport and in many school activities, in which the community and student was very welcoming and kind, however, in classroom settings or within the administration office there wasn't the representation of people of color that Kennedy seemed so proud of. I wish that the controversies and tragedies of the past academic year were better handled and that there was more support for the minority group.
okay-ish school. Most of the teachers are great but the faculty is not the best and do not treat the students very well.
I’m a junior. Kennedy went through a rough year with one of the faculty passing away and racism and homophobia scandals you may have heard about. That’s not all there is to Kennedy. I’m one of the lucky ones. I believe that all my teachers care about my education and my well-being. I’ve never felt unsafe at school, and I feel prepared to apply for colleges next year.
There are significant issues regarding the homophobia, sexism, and racism in the school, but they are working to fix it as of 2020. The english and history departments are great, especially for upper class-men. The education is good as a whole, and there is plenty of school spirit.
Kennedy is a very diverse private high school compared to other private schools in the state. The education is good, teachers are supportive, and there are a lot of resources to help students achieve their best. They also have a pretty good athletics program and great coaches. It is all-around a very safe school in a pretty safe location.
While attending Kennedy Catholic High School I have gained a family. I feel supported by all the teachers and staff. Plus, the activities I have been involved including: softball, gymnastics, soccer, volleyball, swim, and orchestra have all helped me grow to become the strong individual I am today. However, the one thing that I would change is the types of classes offered at Kennedy Catholic. There is a wide variety of different types of classes offered, but Kennedy Catholic does not offer as many hands on classes like woodshop or auto-shop. Additionally, not all sports are able to be played on-campus because of lack of space.
Kennedy Catholic offered me many opportunities to grow as an individual through retreats, extra curricular activities, and in the classroom. The school cares about individual needs and creates a strong community aspect for all to participate in. Throughout my four years at this high school I learned many lessons both inside the classroom and outside. This school has provided me the skills to succeed outside of high school and grow as an independent thinker, interested in real world problems and interdisciplinary learning. Moreover, this school encourages students to serve others and teaches individuals to become better human beings.
Hello, I am a sophomore at Kennedy Catholic. My experience at Kennedy has been a good one so far. While diversity is an issue at Kennedy, they have a great sportsteam and they show a lot of enthusiasm for the sports. The academics could be better, but they are good enough to be slighty above average. The food is yummy, but not healthy. The science and math department could improve on the methods they use to teach, by explaining more the topic to the students. The parents at kennedy are VERY involved, many are familiar faces at Kennedy and are very well known. There is a large variety of clubs at Kennedy, which i have joined a few myself and those are very fun. Thank you for the opportunity and have a nice day!
Teachers can recognize potential my son to develop and guide him to select his career path to be suitable with his capacity. My son becomes more creative and active when studying here. I am confident with the school team to care for my son. He joins many community services it helps him to understand the value of life; how to support other persons and volunteer to do the right things, he does not wait until be asked, this makes me surprise; by the way, I would like to thank everybody of Kennedy Catholic High School- Burien to reward my family; this gift is much valuable and I could not forget it
Kennedy is not just a high school to attend, it’s honestly a family too. Every person in the school including staff, teachers, and students are there to support you. You are pushed academically by your teachers, and also receive their support and help when you struggle. The sports are great as well; the coaches are the best trainers and legitmitately love and care about you as a person and a athlete. The people here are genuine and look out for your best interest. You simply cannot go to a better high school than Kennedy.
Kennedy is a relatively safe environment and teachers generally seem to enjoy their jobs. There are opportunities to engage in extracurricular activities. All students are expected to be involved in service.
The environment is very welcoming, and I have been content with my overall experience. I felt prepared to apply for colleges.
Despite the fact Kennedy Catholic is a private, Catholic institution, the students are all accepting of each others' faiths, races, sexual orientations, etc. The school has given me a chance to grow exponentially in my skills in both music and academics. I'm proud to be a part of Kennedy's first large group of students to attend DECA state competition, as well as a temporary member of Kennedy's revival of the bowling team. There are factors of Kennedy Catholic which are starting to regress, specifically the instrumental program and the unwillingness to open up a newspaper program or LGBTQ club, but I have hope the school will only go forward in the future with great new campus ministry leaders and competent alumni returning to teach, as well as a new college/career advisor appointed to the staff.
