Keller High is an extremely competitive school. I have to work hard just to keep up! The teachers range from overly strict to overly lenient, and freshman year is undoubtably the worst. So many homophobic slurs, and honestly the teachers couldn’t care less. It’s incredibly annoying and somewhat scary to know just how conservative my school really is. I do live in Texas, but still!— over half of my sophomore English class chanted in favor of confederate statues before reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. And then we make national news for banning both a holocaust autobiography AND the Bible! What the heck?? Still, I can’t deny the educational benefits I’ve been privy to because of my school, and the phenomenal work of my AP teachers in prepping me accordingly. Oh also our mascot is an “Indian” and our cheerleader’s outfits are mega racist. They’re called the “Indianettes.” Super uncool, and I’ve signed petitions to change it twice now with no change. Way to go, Keller High.
Keller is an amazing community-based school with all around amazing sports, academics, and clubs. Their pathway-based programs give students practical experience in prospective careers while helping them choose colleges that align with their life and career goals. The support for sports and other extracurriculars is amazing at keller and the facilities are top notch! All technology is new and top of the line, there are specific college counselors with the only job to help with scholarships and admission, and they offer almost every possible AP and Dual class. The administration is also very involved and supportive of every student at KHS, and there is a large amount of security, with amazing security guards, protocols, and necessary student ID's. The only potential negative part of Keller that I could think of would be lack of diversity, with an estimated population of almost 70% or more white students. Other than that, everything at Keller is top notch.
Overall, my experience at KHS has been very positive. There is something for everyone, and it’s typically good. The academics are challenging (in a good way) and majority of the teachers actually care about what they are teaching. Athletics are pretty good all around. Fine arts are all award winning programs. It is very easy to find the right thing for you, and the school spirit is like none other. Even when losing a football game, we have high morale!
