As soon as I walked through the doors of Kellenberg Memorial High School as a Freshman, I immediately felt at home. The welcoming and comforting atmosphere of the teachers, faculty, and students made it feel less like a school and more like a home! This school prepares every student for college, and life after college with extreme dedication and readiness. The rigor of academic courses and opportunities available through clubs, extracurriculares, sports, and volunteer work have prepared me for my future college endeavors more than I could have imagined! The teachers are understanding and always willing to work on the student’s behalf. All of my teachers have always been available for any extra help I may have needed to help me succeed in my courses when I was faced with trouble. I owe much of who I am as a person today to the faculty and staff of Kellenberg Memorial Highschool and would immediately recommend this school to any student or parent deciding where to attend high school!
I love the school so much but it’s a very lecture type class most time. They teach you to memorize lots of information and be able to take trimesters and comprehensive exams on it. It’s a very college preparation school but it gets you ready for the real world so it is a great overall experience. I have met some of the best people throughout the involvement of clubs and activities I did in this school. Blue and Gold has been my favorite program throughout the entire school. If you’ve never done something on a dance level to be able to join the dance team, then this is perfect for you. It’s a way for you to get involved, meet friends, and learn choreography after school and perform in a big show at Hofstra that is such an incredible experience! I can’t imagine myself anywhere else!
The thing that caught my interested in Kellenberg when enrolling in high schools was the animals. And at first this sounds funny, but yes, the school has animals throughout the building. Whether it’s the teacher’s personal dogs they bring to class or the birds in the lobby, wherever you go there are animals. Once accepted into the school, I made a point to get involved in this aspect of the school. One example is taking care of the lab animals (turtles, lizards, and guinea pigs) in the mornings before my classes start.
Besides the animals, I love the academic involvement I feel in my classes. I’m most interested in my science classes. The school has brand new labs specialized for each course you take year to year. I’m a visual learner and being forced into hands-on work helps in my learning.
