There are many pros and cons to this school. The facilities are trash, the racial biases are ignored, and it can be stressful. However, I have made some of the best friends of my life there. I also will be able to get into almost any other school of my choice, based simply on the reputation. Also, I am much more used to stressful situations since going there and can handle them well. Some teachers at this school are amazing and smart and some care nothing about you and make life very difficult. The way to get through this school is by forming a strong friend group, being organized, and appreciating what you have!

Masterman is a great school. It has its faults, but for a public school in Philadelphia I think it offers challenging and engaging classes, excellent teachers, and great connections between students. If you thrive in competitive environments, this is a good place for you (as long as you're careful not to let that competition consume you- there is definitely a toxic culture here). Because the student body is so small, students have better opportunities to connect with their teachers and build constructive resources to help them in the future. There is also a genuine appreciation for learning here: most students take school seriously, which fosters a great learning environment for people who like school. Facility-wise, not so great. There are also underlying issues of diversity and an awkward administration. But students here are uniquely independent and fierce advocates of their own opinions- the student voice is always loud, if not heard.
I've been in Masterman since fifth grade and I can surely say that this school will really push you to be successful. Many of the teachers don't stress kids with amounts of useless homework and only give when necessary. Although the school is so small, you get to know and create strong bonds with the teachers and staff. It really does make you feel connected with everyone and one big family! I wished there was more diversity though because it's mostly a lot of white and asian kids than other races. I love the placement of the school since it's right above center city and close to a bunch of places to eat and the subway. I definitely recommend your kids coming here!
