Overall, the school itself is pretty good with relation to its academics. The school is very competitive and there's lot of people really worried about which college they want to get in. University of Pennsylvania is a very popular choice in this school. The food is mediocre. The party life is surprisingly more than you would think, albeit not too high either. Probably 40% of the high school do drugs or drink alcohol. But other than that, there's not much social interaction between the students as many of them are really focused on their schoolwork and not on parties or having fun. The school is not preppy either, as many would think. There may be some students that think they are better than everyone else because they get higher grades but that's the exception, not the norm.
Review Julia R. Masterman Secondary School
This is a really good school when it comes to academics and it will definitely prepare the student for college. However, when it also promotes a stress culture somewhat and there is this overarching belief there that unless the student gets nearly perfect everything, they won't be successful in the future. Additionally, there is not too much consideration given to students who come from poor families and the school doesn't really address that because of the relatively wealthy majority that attends the school.
Masterman is ranked as one of the top schools in the state. It is a really great school! Everyone is really close to each other, so you feel really comfortable. The teachers are also really great. It is easy to go up to them when you have any problems with anything. There are many things wrong with the actual school building itself, but Masterman is one of the best experiences you can get.
