Masterman is a pretty rigorous school. The school makes students take all honors/AP classes to acheive their best academic ability. It knows what to provide for the students so that they are ready for college and have a good future. The school has many problems, however, such as lack of funding, shortage of teachers, environmental (building) concerns, and lack of options for students. Since it is a fairly small school (~120 students per grade), course selection is limited and students don’t always get the classes they would like. There are also not as many sports to participate in, compared other schools. However, the student community is very close knit and most students are familiar with each other as they grew up together through middle school and high school. Overall, Masterman is a great school for students to acheive success in the future, but has many problems.
There are many pros and cons to this school. The facilities are trash, the racial biases are ignored, and it can be stressful. However, I have made some of the best friends of my life there. I also will be able to get into almost any other school of my choice, based simply on the reputation. Also, I am much more used to stressful situations since going there and can handle them well. Some teachers at this school are amazing and smart and some care nothing about you and make life very difficult. The way to get through this school is by forming a strong friend group, being organized, and appreciating what you have!
Masterman's school community is very close knit and being a small school everyone knows each other. Currently there seems to be a lot of issues that has risen due to the COVID pandemic such as a shortage of teachers as well as the lack of resource. Although there are little variety in the sports and clubs at Masterman, club are fairly easy to startup if you were passionate about something. Masterman definitely prepares their students for college as well as teaching students how to handle stress.
