Not a good school. I had a bad experience here. Please think twice before you consider sending your child here.
While there is definitely a lack of diversity and some problems with homophobia/transphobia, Henley is generally a great school. The teachers are super nice and helpful (Magistro, Andrews, Strzepek, Timmons, and Bochain are some of the "favorites"), and the clubs and extracurriculars are great. I was on the 8th grade "we the people" team this year, and will definitely be doing it in high school, too!
The people there are generally nice, but there are a few teachers there that are just not that good. Most of the teachers are amazing, though! I also heard that the garlic breadsticks are to die for.
I am a student at this school and you can tell there is a lot of bullying and favoriting. Having a point of view from the inside of the school you can tell there is certain “clicks” forming and those “clicks” targeting lower clicks and bullying. The environment makes you stressed and makes kids depressed and self conscious and unmotivated.
I had a great year. There is some racial/homophobic bullying that needs to be addressed, but most students are very open and inclusive. Extracurricular activities are great; there is everything from Scholastic Bowl to Environmental Club to Harry Potter Club. The teachers are all mostly fairly good; as a student in the Honors academics, I’d say that they handle things well and are very organized. I can’t speak for Standard and Advanced students, though, and I’ve heard that these people are often overlooked.
This is our first year here and everyone is crazy nice. The students have outside recess 3 times a day. Yes, that is THREE times. The teachers seem to want to work with every student and the gifted kids don't get left behind. Citizenship is also a big topic and value in this school. Love it.
There is definitely some peer pressure and bullying.
