It's very difficult to rate this school because everyone has a different experience. This is mainly due to the influence of tracking on which academic courses are taken. Through AP/honors courses, some great teachers, and enjoyable extracurriculars, I have become prepared for college. The school is improving and has dedicated administration, however, lack of funds are a major setback (especially for departments like the arts). Over half of the student body is on free/reduced lunch and many classes are over capacity, so more financial support would help.
Our sports, theatre department, and variety of clubs are fantastic ways to get involved at school and a large source of our school spirit. I've enjoyed some of the PBIS incentives (like quarterly breakfasts), close proximity to restaurants for off campus lunches, and the 9am start time (say what you will about that). Overall, my rating is due to my personal experience and the success that many students have found post-graduation.

Diversity is where Jordan HS shines; however, the benefits of students/teachers' varying backgrounds is often overlooked by the decaying building.
Great school!!! It has great opportunities and you graduate with a lot of options and it even has an AVID program which is really great !!!!
the teachers and admin are fantastic. they work hard to make sure everyone can graduate with options. the school is old and could use some updates. the community is one of a kind. i have deeply enjoyed my time at jhs.
Jordan High School in Durham, North Carolina is a really meticulous school. The teachers, staff and faculty are all in it to help you graduate with options. At first I have to admit that I didn't like the catch phrase Graduate with options but, over time as I cam to learn more about myself, my interests, and what I enjoy to do. I came to really take a look into the life after high school. After that I was able to have the help of teacher who became like friends along with the staff to guide me down the path that would lead me down to my goals. The school really will push you and make sure you don't let yourself down when things get hard. Even more so to help you graduate and have many opportunities afterwards.
Jordan is one of the most diverse schools in NC. Also, there are well-known for their academics and how well the faculty prepare each students for college and provide them with options after they graduate. The students of the school are very supportive of one another; no matter if it's sports, clubs, or plays/performances.
Some sports don't receive enough funding like football or basketball simply because they're more popular. But once they saw people coming to wrestling matches and the amount of parent involvement they decided to help with funding. Although most of it was raised by the athletes themselves.
Jordan is very diverse and has a huge amount of clubs and extracurricular activities to get involved in and plenty of academic opportunities, but it tends to divide students very early on based on their aptitude with the math and science. The school is divided easily based on academic achievement with little room for growth. Like most of the schools on Durham it's overcrowded, with class sizes running from the upper 20s to mid 30s. There's not a lot of room for individual help during class, but most teachers will find time for students who reach out.
Jordan is very diverse which is overall a big positive. As far as teachers Jordan can be hit or miss. As a student mostly enrolled in Honors and AP Classes my teachers have been very engaging, challenging, and helpful. Jordan's weakest department is certainly the math department or the Spanish department, however, all other departments are pretty great.
I've attended Jordan High School for all 4 years and during that time, I've really enjoyed it. Jordan High School cares for all their students and as my principle says, "Graduate with options". They make sure the students have all the resources and materials needed to get their work done. Jordan is also very diverse and has a cultural night every year so we can learn more about our classmates and their cultures. Even during this pandemic, my school has made it their goal to provide for their students, and continue to uplift the class of 2020 by having a virtual prom.
My experience their was good. I felt safe and they really took the time to help you out if you needed help on anything. If you was a senior they wanted to provide with multiple option to choose from come graduation.
I loved how the teachers were willing to help you achieve your goals. The students were welcoming and everyone got along. The principal and administration were easy to get along with while implementing structure. They also do a good job of preparing you for college and presenting you with the specific resources you need.
I had a very good time at Jordan and I wouldn't have changed where I went for High School. Desoite some of the poor facilities, administration has begun to make things newer and cleaner.
Terrible school. Very underfunded. Most teachers are pretty strict but there are a couple teachers who are amazing and want their students to succeed.
It was an average experience, needs funding and consistent teachers that stay longer than a few years.
I love that school because that was my first year in public school and I had an awesome experience with the teachers and students and football team.
My experience with Jordan has been bittersweet. I am currently a senior so I haven't graduated, however, my time is almost up. All around I believe that Jordan is probably the best school in Durham. My school has 1,992 kids. There is so much diversity at Jordan compared to the rest of the schools in Durham. I've made some of the best memories here and I have met some great people. My time here has been well spent and I know I am going to be in a world full of hurt when I leave. On the other hand I think one of the things I would change is the counselors. A lot of them have no idea what they're doing. My own guidance counselor took the class I need to graduate off of my schedule. When I told her, she proceeded to tell me that I do not need it. These people truly do not make announcements on deadlines either. The whole senior class had to scramble to get in our cap and gown sheets because there were no announcements made.
