For as bad as I thought going into high school would be hard and bothersome, but the transfer into Hoggard was not that hard and I got the hang of things pretty quickly. The school culture is great, most people are tolerant and don't really care too much about opinions, most clubs have a lot of passion behind them and most of the teachers love what they do. Sadly that's where the good things stop. The school administration is horrible, they took away Smart Lunch, a study program that everyone in the school, teachers included loved. They killed off most clubs my junior year and have not tried to bring them back. School lunch is disgusting and an honest to god sanitary hazard but that's the same across all public high schools. Most teachers that teach important electives like engineering don't have enough resources to do big activities and most classes don't really prepare you for college. All in all it's honestly not the greatest school but the community is amazing.
Great school overall! Amazing academics and student life, plenty of AP/IB courses offered in class& online with good teachers. However, it is a very big school so the AP/IB/sports kids definitely were prioritized over other students.
I transferred here my sophomore year of high school and have loved every minute of it. My teachers have always been flexible with our crazy volleyball schedule, but in general want the best for you!
