John Hersey High School Reviews
Rating 4.12 out of 5 357 reviews
I had a pretty great experience at Hersey! Hersey has great academics and really focuses on preparing students for both the ACT and for college. They have a wide variety of AP and honors classes in almost every field. The school culture is also very strong, especially at football games, where the stands would be completely full with orange-clad students cheering at the top of their lungs. However, Hersey doesn't have much diversity with their students or teachers. I'd say maybe 85% of my graduating class were white and the other 15% were Black, Asian-Americans, or Mexican, with Black students making up the smallest proportion of the class.
I’ve been at this school for 3 years now and I wish I could say its been all I dreamed it would be, but it’s not, the other students clearly disrespect eachother and refuse to listen to school authority. Admin requests students speak up when being bullied but rarely do anything about it and if so they sit you down next to your bully to try and work it out. This school prides itself on being inclusive when it lacks resources for incoming freshmen who need help making friends, something I wish I would’ve had my freshman year. The athletic department is good in terms of football, but for any other sport its underfunded or requires private donations, especially for any girls sports. Kids talk to security like their friends which is just strange. Honestly its just an average school that is failing on seeing what it needs to fix in its systems. Maybe throw more freshman mixers so people get out there and make new friends, without friends your stuck at lunch sitting in the hallway by yourself
I’m a junior at Hersey High School and my experience so far has been great. The faculty is intelligent and professional in what they do, the athletics are some of the best in the district, and there are a multitude of clubs to be a part of. Their college resources are also really good. I have enjoyed so many of the classes I’ve taken at Hersey so far—even if some are a bit challenging—and love how many AP classes Hersey offers. This helps immensely with GPAs in general and allows students to gain college credit and college-level academic experience. The friends I have made here is also one of the many reasons why I love Hersey so much. The public school setting allowed me to meet different people, and since I came from a small, private school, this was really eye-opening. It’s really been a great time for me here and I have only good things to say about this school. Go Huskies!
