John Handley High School is full of pride. The teachers and administration have worked extremely hard during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide everyone the best educational experience as possible. From the first day of the school year, students could choose 100% distance or a hybrid model. Unlike many other surrounding school districts, Handley allowed students to be fluid in their selection. If a student chose 100% distance and then wanted to change to hybrid, this change could be done and visa versa. All classes are taught synchronously with all learners at home or school being taught at the same time with live streaming. This has allowed for collaboration and continued group work. There are many clubs and organizations to help increase student involvement. Our athletics programs are strong and get a lot of student body and community support.
I love the atmosphere behind the student life and teaching! I wish more representation and diversity was implied at the school, as we are a majority minority school, we are more views as a "white school".
John Handley High School is a great school for academics. The teachers that I've had are amazing. They are caring and willing to help you in and outside of school. The athletics are also good. The sports teams might not be in first place all the time, but you do grow good connections with the whole team. Most people on the teams are open and caring about each other and always an extra group of people to talk to when you're going through something. When you are in need of help for college, the Counselors are there to help. I would like to see an upgrade in some places around the school, specifically in the locker rooms, but other than that, Handley is a great school to go to for academics and another heartwarming family.
