John F. Kennedy high school has welcoming teachers and guidance counselors who are always willing to help. The courses are challenging but are worthwhile and interesting. Additionally, they help to shape students for college. There is an abundance of school spirit present within the students who are in clubs or sports. The faculty is very kind. The library is filled with many new novels, and the librarians are very helpful. The only issue is the school's new heating and cooling system which is not properly functioning, but I'm positive the hardworking custodians will fix that very soon.

The overall experience here is positive. I do wish that this school focused more on expanding interests and guiding students to choose careers and passions at an early age. This can be fixed by the incorporation of technology, immersion programs, effective and healthy habits of communication by appreciating different views on current events. I would also love for there to be useful interaction between the students and higher faculty for the most productive use of finances and potential for the student body to grow.
The school offers a very supportive faculty who is willing to work with the students to achieve the academic support they need. The work may be strenuous to the average American, but in the long run, the earn very high achievements. For example, incoming freshmen who are in an honors science class typically take a course that offers an introduction to the reality of scientific research. Students are paired up to work on research competitions like the Toshiba Exploravision Competition, hosted by Toshiba, which students design products that can be used to make life easier in the future. The group I was apart of actually received the rank of "honorable mention" for our work. If students wanted to continue their passion for science, they may take the class, Advanced Science Research, where students will actually learn about how to properly conduct research. Students then enter competitions that require extensive research that offer scholarships like Intel's Science Talent Search. Our alumni were finalists in the nation-wide competition.Although JFK brings a lot of academic growth to its students, the students themselves develop strong bonds and form cliques that are hard to socially reform.
