We had such a positive kindergarten and first grade experience. The kindergarten and first grade teacher went above and beyond to challenge our child as did the gifted and talented program. Unfortunately, 2nd grade was a huge disappointment. When asked if the teacher could possibly alter her curriculum so our child would continue to be challenged, her response was, "no I can't." When asked if that was because of common core or a district mandate, her response was, "I just can't." The gifted and talented program was handed over to someone who is not qualified. Her form of challenging students is printing off worksheets from Pinterest. Multiple parents have complained and we've yet to see any changes. We are not the only ones to have experienced such a huge disappointment. All we ever hear is they need more funding. If your child is in Special Ed for anything other than talented and gifted programs, you will receive ample health funding and Aid. Otherwise, you are on your own.
I do not believe that it is healthy for elementary-age children to suffer from heat rash because the school will not retrofit the building with air conditioning. They do however see fit to retrofit the building for the office within the same school building. A simple solution would be to postpone starting school until after the first of September. But that would be using good common sense.
