As a student who has attended Combs since kindergarten, finally leaving Simonton Elementary in May 2017 was such a relief. However, Combs Middle School was not as great as I had previously thought. I learned mostly on my own and I only looked forward to orchestra, photography, and art (orchestra/photography 7th grade, orchestra/art 8th grade. I took FACS 1 in 7th, it was awful and I didn’t learn to cook very well at all, I took Theatre in 8th grade, no one participated and the teacher had favorites). Mr. Lloyd, the middle school band/orchestra/choir director, really made mine, and others’, days. He deserved all of the awards and grants that he had earned over the years and years to come.

The teachers aren’t great, the students have alcohol and weed brought to school, and the curriculum is horrible. The curriculum is the most important part of this, so that’s what I’ll explain. The English curriculum, in particular, is the worst I’ve experience in my 8 years of going to school. Some people do not believe in global warming, and they are passionate about that belief. But students are still forced to hear it and read it every single day for 9 weeks. I, personally, was about to storm out of the classroom, something that’s unlike me. I really just could not take it anymore. Not to mention, the writing prompts are bad and the books we have to read are, too
It was an average school. Not all the teachers are the best choice to even be teaching at all. The music program here is amazing though.
