I went to Mann all 4 years and I am glad I went there. I am about to be a freshman in college and feel like I was prepared perfectly for being on my own. If you ever need help like mentally or help in any other form all you need to do is ask and they will help, I can say MOST of the staff at Mann are extremely nice and within a couple of weeks will become your friend there are a few exceptions, some adults just take themselves too seriously never forming nice relationships with their students. They could put more money towards science and math and not towards football when we NEVER win, so more field trips and experiences for the students can happen instead of being stuck in the class 180 days for 4 years straight. Something I do wish was different was the representation of diversity. Especially within the students/student council. Because there is barely representation people who are not white tend to not take part in school activities, feeling left out. Spirit Week is also the BEST!
At JL Mann they have a program that is called NewTech. This is an optional program that focuses on project based learning. This is basically learning while applying what you are learning. For example, while you are learning about genetics, you are putting together a family tree that describes one's physical traits and illnesses that are passed down. The school also has an amazing engineering program and has one of the highest percentage of students going into engineering majors in college. The sports teams are strong (except for the football team), almost all of them going to regional or state championships.
J.L. is a great science, math, and technology based school. Every student at J.L. Mann has different things they would like to change about J.L. Mann. At J.L. Mann we don’t have a lot of clubs that are interesting or if we did they are not available anymore. I would like to see J.L Mann to survey what students like to see what clubs they can make because some students just go to clubs to make their college application look good. J.L. Mann has a good selection of related arts classes that are not just about technology. For example they have a guitar class and I do not think that a lot of other schools in my district have guitar classes. J.L. Mann does not have great funding for sports other than football or basketball. I would like J.l. Mann to change how they prioritize football and basketball. Finally, I would like J.L. Mann or even the J.L. Mann student council to ask their students what do they want or what do they want to see change.
