Halsey is a 9 out of 10 school. Its safe, friendly, and supportive. There are police guards and security cameras alongside few fights that I know of. The teachers are usually kind and know what they're doing. But I had three teachers didn't control/teach the class well. Most kids are friendly and the class size (around 30) is not too big nor too small. What I would recommend improving is the boy's gym and the locker rooms. Not only but the cafeteria is pretty clean but this year, I have last lunch period and there is food everywhere on the floor. Also, the kitchen is so musty and I really think the cooks should get a ventilation system. There are many clubs that are best to find them all during 6th grade are knowledge based from previous years. Also there's a nest of wasps(?) that keeps my teacher from opening the windows at the front right of the school. The academics and the clubs are great and attend if you are zoned to Halsey.
I did not necessarily have many problems with the students. However, classes were not very engaging and very few teachers had much passion in what they were teaching. I also deeply dislike that the teachers believe that giving students detention was going to change their behavior, this was proven wrong throughout the school years for the teachers threatened to take away the end of year trip, your freedom to go outside during recess and also practically starving us until 10 minutes before the bell rings to dismiss us to the next class.
Steven A. Halsey J.H.S. 157 is an award winning junior high school. This school gives support academically, emotionally and mentally. The principal is on top of all events that is happening at the school. He says hi to even the little people. He makes everyone feel that this school is a home away from home but at the same time on top of the curriculum. The 2 things I love most about this school is it BULLY free and has an unlimited amount of extra programs. One of them is Acting. Many kids are talented and they let children make there own show from beginning to end. This includes kids controlling lights and music. Halsey is one of a kind.
