After moving to the Jericho district from another country, I've been welcomed by the student body and faculties. A few of the newly arrived foreign students who came along with me had received sufficient English support, including extra time on tests etc. One of the first things I noticed about the school is the safe environment, where no fights or big incidents have ever happened over the school years. Nonetheless, I was surprised by the academic integrity here and how students are serious about receiving quality education and planning their future in colleges. Competiveness does appear generally, which can be a major stress factor for some students. The school district also has a great amount of resources that are provided to students, including field trips, various clubs, and even foreign country trips. However, students need to be prepared for outside challenges as they might have been sheltered in this "Jericho bubble". Overall Jericho is a great district for students to grow in.
There are a ton of clubs and extracurriculars to choose from! Teachers are generally nice and want to help you but there are some that are notorious for not being able to teach their course well. Students constantly talk about college preparation from an early age, making academics and extracurriculars more competitive. School lunch is a bit better than New York City public schools but it’s overpriced for their value. There are a lot of resources for anything and everything and the schools make efforts to prioritize students
My experience at Jericho High School was remarkable. I found a group of students at Jericho who turned from strangers to family, each one of them supported me through the rough patches of High School. My teachers were extremely patient and helpful because whenever I had a question they would politely answer and give an explanation that helped me understand the lesson better. Jericho is academically strong leading it to be the number one school in the district. Upcoming graduates at Jericho are prepared to enter the next step in their lives because they have been exposed to the challenging courses at college. Students enroll in numerous AP courses each year to give them an idea about what college work looks like. I believe Jericho shouldn’t just focus on academics, but on athletics to be a well-rounded school. Some individuals are not strong in the academic field, but can be skilled in the athletic world.
