Jefferson Forest High School has a very good band program as well as amazing sports teams! The academic standards are higher than average, but they are very much met by students! The only thing I would like to change about the school is the social divide. Forest is full of different classes, so students have split into the "preppy" kids and the "redneck" kids. In reality, there is nothing dividing them except their parents' jobs. In the future, I hope to see students come together as one rather than splitting into social classes.

I only went to JF for a year, so I missed out on Gov School and CVCC, meaning I spent all of my time on campus. It's a very unusual situation compared to my old school as most of the more academically gifted students are rarely (if ever) at JF. Because of this, school spirit is definitely lacking. The educational quality is okay, but honestly the standards are pretty low. Coming from a nationally-ranked city school, I can say it is incredibly noncompetitive (they don't even announce valedictorian at graduation to discourage a competitive mindset, but I believe this to be a huge disadvantage to students). They are not very helpful to transfers and definitely favor their own students first. I also found it to be difficult to access grades and rankings as teachers don't usually keep up with grading. There were definitely a few absolutely incredible teachers that pushed me to do my best, but the majority were average with low standards, and I honestly wouldn't repeat my experience there.
I loved the teachers at Jefferson Forest High School, every teacher I had the pleasure of having was committed to teaching their children, and helping them in whatever way they needed. I often visited them in subsequent years, and they always said hello to me in the hallways and asked about my experience moving forward in my life. I learned a great deal from them, especially from Mr. Munson, who remains my favorite teacher of all time. The school culture could be extremely toxic, in such a way that I did not know how toxic students were and could be until leaving the school. However, administration seemed aware of this and tried extremely hard to encourage safety and happiness in their students, especially by suggesting students make videos against bullying in order to connect more with the rest of the student body.
