Coming from Florida, a very diverse area, I was very shocked by this new school. Upon my arrival news stories were broadcasted about racist students. This was very alarming, as this was something I was not used to. It made me worried about individuals of a different race as they were treated so poorly. The school was a very close-minded culture, children would be judged for any opinion that was not related to the Christian values and other sexual orientation. As this goes for students and classmates, some teachers as well share the same views and vocalize them. However, there are some very good teachers and groups of kids as well. You are able to find some people who think the same as you, and some teachers are really easy to approach and inspiring.
Jefferson Forest High School and Bedford County Public Schools has been a great experience for me because ever since I was in fourth grade my teachers, my parents, and myself have all had the understanding that I was going major in an engineering degree in college. The school has given me all the resources to prepare me specifically for that reason. Throughout elementary school I struggled with behavioral issues in the classroom because the work was not challenging enough and I had most of my class time to myself because I was always finishing my work quickly. Thanks to our great gifted teacher I was given the chance to take the 6th grade math in 5th grade since I passed the 5th grade math test with higher than a 95 at the beginning of the year.Ever since then I have been taking the math course one or two years ahead of my classmates. Opportunities like this have been presented to myself and other students since elementary school and we have the most college ready student in our area.
Going to this school was a pretty good experience! I made a bunch of friends throughout my 4 years! One thing this school mainly has a problem with is problems with students. Sometimes the administration would sweep the discrimination underneath the rug!
