JCHS is very student oriented. There are lots of student-led clubs and activities. The daily bulletin keeps everyone up to date with general announcements and important events like homecoming, spirit week, FAFSA and college visits (College and Career Center), etc. There are multiple fundraisers throughout the year done by clubs and a couple of fairs. There are different CTE academies to help students focus on electives that matter to them (Creative Media, STEAM, Health Sciences, Public and Human Services, and ABIB). Students are now required to do a graduation portfolio to show their college and career readiness. Overall it has a generally inviting vibe, the students are nice, the teachers are fun and know what they're doing and the classes are fairly good.
I transferred to James Campbell for my sophomore year of college and my experience has been more than satisfactory. The teachers are attentive to their students and are all eager to help in whatever capacity their students may require of them. The campus is beautiful and of a reasonable size to accommodate the large student population, and the technology, equipment, and classes themselves are all well-suited to ensuring students have all they need to succeed. And the students themselves, though I have not known them long, are a shining example of the diversity that makes Hawaii such a beautiful place to begin with.
What I liked about James Campbell High School was the teachers were very kind. The buildings were nice and clean. A change I would want to see is more activities within the school and more class spirit! Also, there were several lockdowns due to strangers coming into school and fights between students. Hopefully, in the future, they can do more to assure the safety of the students. But, overall I would rate my high school year in this school a 9/10.
