I moved to Florida two weeks before quarantined started. Which means I only attended Island Coast for one week in person before switching to online. My experience while there was short lived. The teachers were very nice to me and helping me out as much as they could. I got to meet some cool new people too! While we transitioned into online school it was very easy. The teachers helped us through and troubles that I went by. The work wasn't too complicated while transitioning to online school. Overall Island Coast is a great school and I can't wait to finish off my senior year there!
Island Coast High School offers many opportunities regarding academics, there are many AP and Honor classes that can be taken with teachers that are fully commited to the success of the students, especially in the english and foreign language departments. While the high school doesn't have many extracurricular opportunities outside sports, the administration does encourage the students to create their own clubs and communities. Excluding previous years, the administration regarding school activities and the establishment of on campus rules was poor for the school year of 2019-2020, however the school does have great counselour that are committed to guide the students to make the most out of their high school experience and to be ready for their post graduation plans.
My experience at Island Coast High School I feel like it could have been better. They are very unorganized with the sports at Island Coast in general. I have been on varsity soccer, swim, Track and Field. It feels as if soccer and Track & Field were ignored 2 years ago and it felt that all they cared about was football. But I will admit that has changed the past year. I feel that Dr. C has been doing a great job running Island Coast. I love the administration at coast. The school culture at coast and diversity is insane. Island Coast is probably the most diverse high school in all of lee county. Coast has made me college ready with programs like AVID, AP, and Dual Enrollment. I would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Chechillo, my AVID teacher for preparing me tremendously for college. She is the best teacher at Coast and has always helped me even when her hands were full. The only problem I have about coast was just the lack of support for all the sports they have to offer.
