Overall it's a good school. I was in the gifted program and the teachers for the most part were understanding of students and had very fun activities. Not to mention their preparations for state tests and regents was great. I also graduated to a specialized high school from 126. The school has many programs to keep kids out of the streets and just to help them improve as people. One critique, I feel that the Spanish teacher there is useless. She focuses more on the Multicultural Festival instead of teaching her classes and even then she puts most of the heavy work on the students. If you end up being in her Spanish class, don't expect to learn anything besides Spanish celebrities.
Great teachers and great learning environment. I was a shy kid back then but the teachers always supported me throughout my time there. They really take the time out of their day to help you with whatever you need. Highly recommend!
I.S. 126 is a hard school to learn at. There are kids who bully other kids and nothing happens to them. I want to learn how to change my school
In I.S. 126, I had some great teachers, and I am still implementing what I was taught, to my classes in high school. I.S. 126 is a school for Visual and Performing Arts, and I believe they had actually started to live up to that name during the years that I attended the school. They added more programs, clubs, shows, and classes related to the performing arts. Overall, it was a good experience for me. However, that may not be the case for everyone. In sixth grade, I was placed in one of the lower classes, and I believe my academic opportunities were fairly lessened, and the teachers I had were not all that great, with the exception of two. In seventh and eighth grade, as I moved up towards the higher classes (due to my state test grades and averages), I understood that not all students were given completely equal opportunities. Needless to say, it is important to reward the hardworking, but that does not necessarily mean that the others have to be given any less of the attention.
My experience there was good. I was part of the acting class, dance class, and Project Highroad. Those activities helped shape me into the person I am now. I stayed out of trouble because of those activities. They kept me out the streets as I lived in a bad neighborhood. I still remember my teachers and classmates and even a couple of the plays I did. The teachers there were not so good but then again it wasn’t a great school either. I do remember how when we first walked in there was security guards and metal detectors there so no real harm ever happened. Overall it was a good experience.
