My daughter is a Chinese student studying in the US. She received offers from 7 prestigious boarding schools and chose Iolani School in Hawaii. To this day, we made the right decision. She took AP Chemistry, AP Biology and APUSH in 10th grade. AP Chemistry was especially difficult. The teacher offered extra tutoring and encouragement and she got straight As for the year. My daughter tried out for a new sport: wrestling. With her coach's encouragement she persevered two years through pain, tears and failure then won her first competition! When the dorm closed due to the pandemic, a wonderful Iolani teacher who's been teaching at Iolani for 40 years opened his home to host my daughter and another student. They treated my daughter like family. Iolani will reopen in August with ample PPE and protective measures. We are grateful that our daughter's life/education remain stable during these unprecedented times. We value the true spirit of Iolani's One Team!

‘Iolani School is a very supportive community that allows students to discover and develop their talents by providing a wide range of extracurricular activities, such as athletics and clubs related to STEM or community service. The teachers are also very professional, helping students develop their knowledge beyond the class lectures and apply it to real-life situations. Though the amount of class workload might be challenging for some students to complete, it definitely helps them develop time management skills and prepare for college. As a boarding student, I also appreciate the support and efforts of house parents to create a welcoming dorm community. So far, I am enjoying my student life at ‘Iolani!
What I love about Iolani is the welcoming and inclusive community. I entered as a new student in 9th grade, and from the first day people were so kind and friendly and would even invite me to sit at their lunch tables. The teachers are so supportive and understanding, and are willing to help you whenever you need it. The academic level is high, and the workload is big, but if you manage your time, you can definitely succeed and have time for other extra-curricular activities, like sports, clubs, and academic teams. Overall, the academic and social wellbeing at Iolani is really phenomenal. The boarding program, together with the wide range of activities, provides a well-rounded education for every student at Iolani. I’m so happy I came to this school and I can’t wait to go back!
