ISCHS is a small family. Everyone in there knows and cares for each other. Your teachers know your name, with small and personal class sizes. Teachers are more than ready to help you grow academically and personally, just like all the staff. We do lack a bit in sports, but when there's a game, everyone cheers and has fun. There sure is a bunch of Eagle spirit! Lots of opportunities to get involved with dozens of clubs catered to many interests. Rigorous academics but with a manageable workload. The food is very tasty! Perfect school. If I could change one thing, it would be to have more time here!
My son has been attending ISCHS already for 2 plus years (since 6th grade and he is now in 8th grade). It's an amazing environment, academically challenging and zero tolerance to bullying. Despite the fact that the school is small, its classrooms size are as big as any other big school campus - each classroom is fully equipped with latest technology. The school doesn't say much from the outside appearance but once you go into the classrooms, it has the facilities of any top private school at no cost. It should be ranked as the #1 most cost-effective middle/high school in Miami-Dade County for sure! Not to mention that it has been ranked consistently for many year as one of the TOP 5 schools in Florida and TOP 50 in the nation by US NEWS & World Report. I would recommend this school to anybody but be open-minded to the size of its campus - hopefully they can soon move to a bigger campus.
I have had two children go through ISCHS - we recently withdrew our second child after completing 6th. My son completed through 8th . The issues at the school are significant. The Spanish program is poor. The lunch lady was my son's teacher the entire year. She had no curriculum & did not return any emails because didn't read/speak English. When my daughter went to the school, we had the SAME issues again. One of the good teachers confided in me that there isn't a curriculum for Spanish!
Other issues - 80 students in PE with one teacher. Unfair for the teacher and the kids.
There are indeed some excellent teachers there, but it is not the school they present it to be. Just go into the school with open eyes. The rankings are not at all reality.
