I've just graduated from 8th grade there and all i have to say is for the 9 years ive been there ive made some of the best experience and the ppl ive met the emotions and life experience will be none i will ever forget and yes i will miss that place but ik in my heaft i am still apart of the isl family forever
I love the opportunity for my grandchildren to learn a different language. ISL is a top 10 language immersion school, kindergarten through 8th grade, average size classrooms with 2 teachers each. Along with the core subjects, Art, Circus Arts, Music, and PE are included. They have a good after care program. In the morning there is carpool dropoff, but no carpool pickup in the afternoons, so I would like that to change. Bus service can be provided depending on your location. There are several campuses that teach Spanish, French, and other languages, teachers are from various countries. It's an amazing school! Rated Gambit's Top School 2022. Seats fill up quick! So don't hesitate! Kindergarten students are not required to know the target language upon enrollment, 2d grade students must have knowledge of the target language to be accepted into ISL. Sibling preference is offered. Uniforms are required. Enroll through Oneapp to request a seat. Good luck!
I had a great experience at the Westbank, but my experience at the Camp Street campus was poor. There are rats, the food is atrocious. They don't let boys be boys, some kid got suspended for "rough housing" OUTSIDE. There is no sports and no activities. 3 different math teachers quit in 7th grade, and some of the teachers are very mean, especially Gregory Terral, he brings the bad in everything and is always in a grumpy mood.
the international school of Louisiana is a pretty good school, based of my experience. There are a few flaws though, the sports arent great and the facilities arent either. The administration also isnt amazing.
My experience as a student was amazing through 4th through 8th grade, very disciplined and the teachers really care about the student’s performance and knowledge. It can get challenging but the school is overall the best place for a or your child to learn another language and new things.
Awesome school! Both my kids go there (West Bank campus) and I have been really impressed with what they are learning such as math skills, Spanish language, music and science. It’s amazing how my daughter has learned in her 3 years at the school. My son just started this year but is definitely progressing.
This is my eight year of having a student at ISL. I appreciate the global perspective and the openness to other cultures it has fostered in my children.
I am a parent here. Overall, I would love the school if they had tutoring services for kids who are struggling. Because this is an "A" rating school your child has to keep up or else it would lead to all kinds of social services, or referrals which usually leads to getting your child out of the school. Why go through all of that trouble just to keep the school's ratings up when you can just easily help the kids by providing tutoring services only for the few kids who are struggling. It's simple. I'm no rocket scientist. They will get rid of your kid faster than the teacher.
Most of the teachers are native speakers of the language they teach. There are many teachers with many different backgrounds and from many different countries. This helps to give the children a worldly view.
The kids have a uniform. The pieces are fairly easy to find and purchase. Every now and then they have special dress down days. Any correspondence we've ever had with the administration has been positive and any concerns addressed.
The school doesn't have organized sports. They offer boy and girl scout troops that meet after school, as well as onsite karate lessons. The PE department puts together Boys on the Right Track and Girls on the Run. Each ends with a 5K. I'm sure there are other things going on after school, but my kids are not involved in anything else.
We have found that children at ISL are warm and welcoming. The parents at this school definitely want them there and that seems to make a big difference all the way around.
The faculty and staff at the school are always there to help the children.
ISL is a school with an international perspective. Every year each class learns about the customs, food and culture of a different country.
Overall we love this school. My kids have made great friends and enjoy their time at school. You know they like school when it's hard to get them away from aftercare everyday.
I rated this a five because the PE teachers are great and so is Circus Arts. My kindergartner is learning to juggle.
We love ISL. Both of my boys attend the school and we are very satisfied with their progress! While the school may not have organized team sports, they do offer an after-school program through Community Works that allows the kids to work on music, theatre and other projects after school
There aren't really any sports in place at the school.
This school doesn't really have a good health system and went a whole year without a nurse.
