I honestly didn’t know how to feel about ISB, but the people here have changed my mind! This school doesn’t seem like much, but we do have a bunch of awards calling us “The Best High School in Oregon.” It is a small school, so people get to know the teachers way more than at other bigger high schools. Overall this tight knit community is really welcoming, and it’s just amazing to see how your connections with teachers and the help you receive from them really push you to do your best and achieve greater things.
The International School of Beaverton offers students a well-rounded education that promotes critical thinking skills that can be applied to other aspects of the student's life. In addition to this, students are welcomed into an environment that encourages their students to showcase their own cultures and identities while also promoting understanding between cultures. This is done with a lens of compassion and understanding. This is a great school for those students looking to find an environment of academic rigor, however, a downside to this is that most to all subjects are taught at a very fast rate, accompanied by a heavy workload which makes students feel overwhelmed. This results in many students leaving the school for another. However, in recent years the school has helped more students with this aspect of student's life by providing more mental health checks and options to mitigate stress and anxiety levels.
At the International School of Beaverton, classes are rigorous. Which is what is expected from them as they are a full IB School. The classes are extremely focused on accelerating and improving your academic knowledge, however it is so focused on the academics that most of the students feel overwhelmed. The course work combined with homework, tests, and the upcoming IB exams put immense pressure on all the student. However, no one seems to do much about it. Instead more work is just added which increases the stress. Although the pressure is high and the course work loaded with work for us students to complete, it's preparing us for our futures in college and in life.
Although the academic side of ISB is excellent, the facilities we have are not. We are the top school in the state yet the district refuses to give more funding or at least proper classrooms. Most of the IB program are run out of portables that always carry the stench of body odor. This restrains our learning.
