The International Academy of Macomb is rated Michigan's best high school for many reasons. I believe it allowed me to grow both academically and as a person, while making memories I will cherish along the way.
The school follows the IB curriculum, which provides internationally recognized education. There is a strict curriculum and certain guidelines we must follow which may seem superfluous at times, but challenges the students. The atmosphere at the school encouraged motivating competition from the other students to further one's own education.
Finally, I think I was able to make personal growth at the school. Because of the friendly environment the school has, I was able to feel more comfortable around other people in general. I also have developed important life skills I can carry on, like time management.
However, the school also has its limitations as well. The small school lacked resources and opportunities for the students, like early college or sports.

The IAM is a school I have thoroughly enjoyed attending. All my life I have taken pleasure in attending school. Specifically at the IAM, I enjoy the sense of community in a small school environment, I love the academic challenges it provides, and I appreciate the support the school provides as a community when the workload becomes difficult, especially as we attempt to maintain balanced lifestyles. Despite being a little rough around the edges as a considerably new school (taking in mind there have only been eight graduating classes from the school thus far) we have been nationally ranked as a top school in Michigan as well as in the nation. This has been made possible due to the atmosphere at our school that creates a desire to succeed and help others succeed as well as the support of the teachers and staff that create a safe learning environment and have the students' interests at heart. I could not ask for a richer high school experience.
My overall experience at the IAM was okay, there was a lot of diversity within the school, the teachers were very involved in the student's lives, and there was a lot of activities and clubs in the school that brings all the students together. However, the staff at the school don't stay for very long as in my four years at least 11 people have left, including the principle and a few counselors. When the teachers leave, this can set back the students in a certain subject, which happened a few times.
If you're taking this school to be prepared for college this is a good choice, however, it can lessen your chance of receiving more scholarship money as one can have a 3.6 GPA at this school but a 4.0 in their homeschool. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this school, instead, take honors courses or dual enrollment.
