I like Interlake! It does to some degree deserve its reputation as having a competitive atmosphere, but I think that the competitive atmosphere is certainly not felt by everyone, and no matter who you are, it’s possible to just have a good time, be collaborative, and make a lot of great friends. The clubs are great, and the Green Team is amazing! There is kind of a social divide between gifted and non-gifted students, which isn’t ideal.
Interlake High School is a welcoming, diverse and highly academic school. I especially love the wide diversity of clubs and extracurricular activities that they offer. The teachers at Interlake are always professional, and they show a high level of concern for the safety and academic success of their students. One issue that seems to plague Interlake is the sort of social divide between gifted and non-gifted students, which is far from ideal. In regards to academics at Interlake, many students follow the IB diploma program, which is highly coveted across colleges around the world. In essence, Interlake is just a great overall school, with a welcoming community, diverse student body and challenging academic courses.
I enjoyed the sense of community that was offered here, everyone was very welcoming and friendly. The teachers genuinely cared about the students and worked with them to reach individual goals. There was a lot of school spirit and cultural appreciation, it was a very fun environment, I never felt unsafe there. One thing I would like to see change is acknowledgement of the inherent model minority myth that Interlake perpetuates through their specific treatment of Asians. It's very harmful to enforce stereotypes upon teenagers when they are already dealing with a lot of expectations and pressure at home.
