Academics are rigorous and challenging while still remaining at a manageable level in order to push students to excel. Student's safety is guaranteed and having the resources of Ball State University available to us was extremely beneficial to my education and I think taking Ball State Classes helped me in both handling collegiate level academics and in giving my college application a leg up over my peers. One of the biggest flaws in the Indiana Academy is their mental health support services. Although resources weren't ideal to begin with, in the Fall of 2017 the were NO LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELORS available to students for the entire semester. In a stressful and new environment like a residential HS, mental health is a prominent issue among a majority of students. Protocol for students experiencing problems with their mental health is extremely flawed and borderline dangerous. Additionally, discrimination is prevalent and handled just as poorly as mental health.

The Academy is captivating, from the unique way the teachers teach to living in the dormitory. Firstly, education is important; with the teachers teaching in a way that is simple, yet effective; I had no problem catching on to any subject quickly. I think it is also important to mention the few concepts that I did not understand, I could make my way to the specific teacher's office, (located in the Academy) and ask for more clarification.
Experiencing a college student's life while only a high school junior and senior is mind-blowing. I absolutely love: the size of the rooms, the lofts, the showers and all of the other amenities of The Academy.
With myself being African-American, I would like to see more African-American faculty and students. I feel as though most students of this descent get discouraged when they recieve information in the mail or partake in doing research on The Academy, which I have.
My experience at the Indiana Academy has been absolutely wonderful. The culture, as well as the rigor of the courses, is absolutely phenomenal. The Indiana Academy has set me up for success in college by giving the students college schedules with classes at the college level. All our professors have master's degrees at the very least in their area of expertise, many having a Ph.D. An amazing thing about the academy is the level of intellectual conversations we have. We, as students, are allowed to ask deep questions and get an honest, respectful answer in response. We are allowed to ask the purpose of the assignments we are given so that we are engaging with the subjects we are studying. Overall, the Academy has been wonderful in the culture and the education and I would change this experience for the world.
