Indian Springs School is a coeducational day and boarding school for grades 8–12, located on a beautiful 350-acre campus fifteen miles south of Birmingham, Alabama. I'm a new freshman at Springs, and so far, my experience has been outstanding! The curriculum is flexible and tailored to challenge everyone (one of my freshman friends is taking Adv Precalc and AP Stats!) However, the faculty are helpful and supportive. The natural campus is unique, and the buildings blend in with this incredible setting. Cafeteria food is varied -- we have different themes including Pasta Bars, Chinese food, Korean barbecue, etc. The student body is diverse, and everyone is friendly and incredibly talented in their unique way. There are no traditional cliques here, so you'll feel at-home quickly. We have a wide range of extracurricular activities from sports, arts, service to personal interests, which we are given plenty of time and freedom to pursue. However, my only complaint is about the suites rooming 6 people each, fitting 2 students into rooms designed to house one. They are extremely crowded, noisy and contribute to a significant portion of student drama here.
We have been thrilled with our daughter’s experience as a boarding student. She is so happy with the tight-knit boarding community. There is sufficient structure to ensure the students are safe and focus on their studies, but plenty of freedom within that structure. The teachers are dedicated and invested in the success of their students. They truly care about these kids! The academics are quite challenging, and the teachers offer extra help and support to help the kids succeed. The campus is beautiful and serene. My daughter runs the trails around the lake in the mornings before class. She has the opportunity to play several different sports, as well as performing arts. She is excited to return for her Junior year!
Indian Springs is a nice, safe, and rigorous environment and has become like a second home for my junior. This school allows students to learn in the best way possible. I won't lie that it is a really great school and so great school performance is to be expected. The academic area is not only the main reason to say yes to this school, but as well as different ranging programs in art, music and athletics. These kids are lucky to be included in one large community, where the large majority knows each other and treat each other with respect no matter the religion, race, background or preferences. Great teachers are always there to help! My now 8th grader decided to leave his current school and enroll at Indian Springs after having first-hand information because of his sister, He talked about his need to be challenged and how tire he was of being enclosed in classroom walls. When the school days are indeed challenging, the beautiful campus offered a place to relax and be close to nature.
