I have no idea how such a small and isolated school is so well funded. Yes this school receives funding from both Ft. Drum and the state of New York but I have no idea how the school can afford some of these accommodations. They have an entire 3-D printing room, amazing video production course, the concerts and graduation are live-streamed so families of military brats can watch too. The robotics team, field band, and football team all went to states, and they even have VR for virtual field trips! The music department is phenomenal with two drum sets, a five-octave marimba (which for those who don't know is pretty damn big), and multiple sets of percussion instruments. A handful of teachers here have received awards and certificates for their amazing results and many teachers (especially in the science department) are professionals who actually have work experience in their field and are able to provide real-world experiences. Not to mention an abundance of clubs and activities!
There are very few bad things to say about Indian River High School. The academics were great; I felt that I have learned many different things about a wide variety of subjects in both the core classes and the elective classes. Most of the teachers were great, with some being near average, but not bad. Sure, there were days that were boring, but I never felt fear while in school and there is always something to do. There are a plethora of clubs and activities to be a part of, and they are extremely inclusive of race, ethnicity, religion, and sexuality.
Overall there are great opportunities at this school. They are many clubs, sports and after school activities to get involved in. They have many academic opportunities as well ranging from college classes to advanced classes. They teachers at this school are always so outgoing. I would recommend that the school try to improve on it represention of other Coulter’s and facts. They should make group of students that reviews what they are going to put out before it is announced to make sure it is not hurtful.
