Indian River High School has an amazing teaching staff! I have always felt safe. However, the administration allows for no educational field trips and does not tend to the special needs department and SECEP Program as much as it should. These students are secluded from the main hallway. With having a brother with autism, this saddens me for these children and their families. The seclusion must end now.

Overall, the school is ok. There are things that make me proud of my school, but there are also things that could be improved. The food is extremely sub-par and so is the cleanliness of the school; currently, there’s a bit of a rat problem, however, I believe that is being dealt with. Another thing that can be improved is the administration; they often treat students in a way similar to middle schoolers, rather than as high schoolers. The school’s art programs need to be more supported, too. However, while there might be sub-par food and annoying administrators, it isn’t a bad school. In my experience, most of the teachers seem to actually care about the students and how they are. The extracurricular activities, especially VHSL activities, seem to be flourishing recently, too. It’s also a very diverse school, and I, for one, definitely take pride in diversity.
I loved the diversity at Indian River and Principal Frye made it an unforgettable experience. Being active in clubs and sports, I feel as though I made the most of my time there. I feel like without taking honors or AP classes my education would have suffered slightly. Regular classes didn't seem very challenging at all. It was awesome that we had RiverBucks, a Friday morning snack/breakfast program headed up by our special education department. Students in the special education program were in charge of taking orders, preparing and gathering food for the customers and being cashiers. It was a great experience for everyone involved! When I left they had begun renovations to the school, so I'm sure it looks a lot nicer than it did when I was there. All in all I had a great experience there, but wish I would have been a little bit more ready for college.
