I attended Incarnate Word for all four years! I am very proud to be a shamrock and love when I meet current or past shammies! If you want your daughter to be immersed in a quality, private education consider Incarnate Word. I am grateful to all the skills I obtained from the high school. This is where I obtained the life skills that I still use today. The school offers so much for being a small school on the hill. There are many clubs that are continuously being created by the students. There is dual credit opportunities with the university right across the bridge. There is international student housing on campus. There is connections with our other local private schools. The teachers truly do care about the students receiving a quality education so that are futures are full and bright. I had fun and learned so much. This is a school you should definitely look into for your daughters!
I believe the education system at Incarnate Word High School provides young women with the preparation and skill needed for college. The course work is rigorous but the end effect of being university-ready is well worth it. Not to mention the high school is affiliated with the University of the Incarnate Word and provides a glimpse of what actual university is like first hand through programs such as dual credit in which the students recieve college credit on an actual university campus with actual university professors! Amazing! My only concern with the school is the lack of established administration. With many teachers and staff coming in and out of the school, there seems to be no stability in the curriculum. Otherwise, IWHS is and amazing school for college prep and lives up to its prestigeous reputation. 4 out of 5 stars!
Some girls at Incarnate Word may disagree with me, but I think IWHS is a great college preparatory school. The modular schedule allows the students to improve time management skills and develop independence. There are some days where you may have a lot of free time, and it takes a lot of academic integrity to work on tests and homework rather than goof off with friends. On the flip side, that free time can be extremely accomodating to a student's overall mental health. It is nice to take a 20-40 minute break during the day to spend time with friends and maybe do something peaceful but productive like the art station in the library. There is also a very wide range of personalities and personas, which allows everyone to find another student with similar interests. The bathrooms are honestly sub-par, but the peer-ministry at Incarnate Word made them a little more bearable. The food is amazing. Period. Some faculty are unbearable, but the rest are helpful, understanding, and incredible!!
