Safe, caring environment. Loving teachers. Excellent academic curriculum. Your child will be ready for the next step in their educational journey! Music, art, and athletics are just some of the extracurricular programs available. This school has been around for almost 100 years and if you haven't checked it out for yourself, you are missing out!
ILS is a caring environment that I am glad to have been in. However, I would not endorse it for every student. Like so many schools, the focus has turned more and more over the years towards sports, leaving arts and STEM loving kids like me with fewer resources. There are some art classes and music classes, but the choir is essentially gone now. The school has a rigorous academic schedule but is not up to date on technology. Moving to public high school was a huge shock because of how computer-based the learning was, which I was not at all prepared for. However, there was so much homework at ILS that even doing advanced classes feels like very little work. The environment at ILS is not super preachy, although there is tons of memory work of bible verses.
ILS is an amazing, all around school. The class sizes are small, well run and the school is a community. Every child is treated with respect and the entire school is very respectful.
Just not up to date or academically challenging. For all the talk about being Christ centered (and there is a lot of it...expect your kids to spend a lot more time memorizing Bible verses than learning math) the people...adults and kids...acted in the least Christian manner I have seen from a school.
I attended ILS from pre-K to 8th grade. While it was very challenging academically, I had excellent teachers. The school also had a great student culture, at least when I attended. I am still connected to many of my friends from the school. My only complaint is the administration and management. When I attended the school, the management was under control, but only by the skin of its teeth. There is also a very gossipy and cliquey adult culture, but if you aren't super concerned about being an adult volunteer, this is a great place to be! Despite this culture, the school does get a lot of volunteers which is great! The school is somewhat poor, so sometimes there will be a leaky roof or something of the like, but it keeps scrapping by and rightfully so, as it is a loving and caring place to be.
