Illiana Christian school has really changed my perspective on God and how a child of God should live. I love that they involve Christianity into our everyday learning. Each and every one of the teachers are a blessing to the students. Though the workload may be heavy, the teachers are always willing to give their students the best support needed. They also are very interested in actually building a relationship with the students, which makes Illiana even better! Every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday we have Chapel, where about 6 seniors lead a new skit about God. Every Tuesday and Thursday the students have club after second period. Students are able to make their own club if they have participants and a teacher to sponsor it! Whether it was e-learning during the pandemic or at school in person, I have enjoyed all my 4 years at Illiana!
I had a pretty good experience at Illiana. It definitely prepared me for college well and I enjoyed participating in a lot of things. Stem is growing, sports are great as ever, and outside events can be so much fun. The only downside about Illiana is it prioritizes sports, particularly boys basketball, over everything else. Girls are sidelined and even more so, the arts programs, including band, choir, orchestra, and the drama department. Illiana does not support its program as it ought. I loved music and didn’t get the proper musical education due to lackluster teaching, low participation, and blatant ignorance on the part of the staff and students. Maybe one day Illiana will return to its glory day of having a nationally recognized wind ensemble.
My overall experience at Illiana was a positive one. There were bumps and bruises along the way, but that's the high school experience. The academics were pretty good. I think there are several classes, both required and elective, that should be updated and improved upon. Also, there should be more of a variety of options for elective classes. For example, when I was enrolled, the only foreign languages offered were Spanish and German. Besides academics, I enjoyed my experience as an multi-sport athlete. I played varsity tennis and was on the track and field team. One aspect of the school I would like to see improved is more minority student enrollment . When I attended, my demographic (African-American) made up only 5% of the entire student body.
