IDEA College Prep - Alamo Reviews
Rating 4.4 out of 5 53 reviews
IDEA College Prep - Alamo is a complicated place. The environment is big with grades spanning from kinder to 12th grade. Some kids get ignored because there aren't proper resources in the school. As a senior, we have 3 college counselors handling 80 kids. They are the only counselor on campus and only centralize seniors. So the mental struggles lower classmen have can go unheard, struggles that regular counselors would hear. The administration doesn't handle bullying very well nor the struggles of having a school with multiple grade levels. They can go to the extremes when handling typical situations that happen in a public highschool. Also, on the educations aspect of the school, AP classes are mandatory. While this does seem like a good thing to colleges, it can sometimes hurt others GPA taking a rigorous course. One of the few aspects I care very much about the school is the teachers, who are often caring, hardworking, and considerate unlike some administrators or counselors.
At Idea Alamo college prep, it's all about team and family they are always there for you even after graduation as a senior and they help you through your college or university experience. They help you through all the steps needed to enter the college or university of our choice and they always push us to do our very best. I haven't necessarily experience anything bad in this school, only that it can be very strict at times about their dress code but overall it's a good school to go to if you want to go to college an have a high paying job. They make me feel like I was an important member of their family and I can always ask them for help when ever I'm in need of it.
I love how close teachers and students are. Since it’s a small high school, with less than 90 seniors, staff and students get to have a lot of 1 on 1 interactions, allowing students to succeed more. I also loved how they ensure 100% of students go into college. Counselors make sure students are as successful as possible and give students their full attention. One thing that wasn’t the best was the lack of student spirit and activities. There was never really Homecoming Games or dances, it was majorly based on academics.
