Ida Freeman has one of very few elementary chess clubs in the state. They have case after case of team trophies and this isn't because only the best players play at the tournaments. All the kids play that want to play. If a kid wants to play and can't afford it, they offer scholarships to each and every tournament. They also have an honor choir program that is put on by the music teacher before school. The PE teacher does basketball camp one day after school every couple of weeks. They do their best to offer a variety of extra activities to keep the kids engaged and learning.
This school is all about teaching kids to be good citizens. The kids here pick each other up and support one another. The fifth graders volunteer to be safety guards and help to make sure everyone gets to school safely. The school nurse is very nice and cares about the students. This school is very safe. i never question the safety of my kids while they are here. This school is one big family that looks out for everyone.
There are so many ways to become involved as a parent from the first day of the school to the last. The teachers appreciate their parents and the parents feel the same for their teachers. We know it is a full circle and takes a village to raise a child.

My kids have excelled at Ida Freeman. The teachers and staff truly care about the kids and the kids come first. They think outside of the box and keep the kids, energized, excited and wanting to come back to school. They have a very special Student of the Month program that makes the kids want to do their best. The school has several extra activities for the students to participate in including chess, honor choir and basketball that the teachers all volunteer their time to make available for the students. We will never leave Ida Freeman District. Out of four children I can only think of one instance of where I had an issue with this school and it was quickly dealt with.
