HBHS is a great school & definitely holds true to the high school experience. Located right next to the beach, the campus is beautiful & is an amazing overall environment. The teachers are engaged & very helpful in getting its students ready for college. The sports programs have tremendous support & APA program is one of the best in the country! There is an endless amount of resources for all students to take advantage of when preparing for their future, whatever that path may be. I highly recommend HBHS.
This school has a great community in addition to amazing opportunities. There are over 50 clubs, various sports, and other programs to join. Personally, I am on the Girl's Tennis Team and apart of the Model United Nations Program. Our Tennis Program is highly ranked among other California high schools and provides us with a fun time playing an awesome sport. MUN has also helped me improve my public speaking and researching skills. It is a phenomenal program that trains the freshmen to become the best of the best. Our school has a 40 year winning steak at Berkeley! In addition, our APA program is amazing, and even pulls students from local schools like Edison High School.
Huntington Beach...historic, beautiful, but isolated. Students at HBHS believe they are the best. I, myself a student, has felt superior over students at neighboring high schools. I see my campus and realize how lucky I am to have historic buildings located across the street from a Police Station. If I were at another high school I believe that I wouldn't be as happy. HBHS has shown me multiple paths that would help my future that I believe I would get at other high schools. For example, special education. I am a peer tutor of a discrete program at my school called Connections. Connections is a group of students who have disabilities and social skill issues. I, one of four other tutors out of the entire 3000 student population, got selected to be a tutor. I obviously took the opportunity. These students have not shown me multiple perspectives on life, but to appreciate all that is given to me. Now, when looking at other high schools, I see myself as an equal and not someone above.
