I love my school. It's my favorite place to be, and I actually can't wait for school holidays to get over with so I can go back! The amount of freedom we have at Hume-Fogg is very nice, and we excel in all areas. Our theatre department and bands are actually higher-ranked than the district's school of the arts. Academics are best in the state, and we have several kids going to Ivy Leagues each year.

We have a lot of outside events and opportunities for all students to get involved or pursue their interests. It's just a really great place.
Review Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet School
I transferred to Hume-Fogg as a sophomore. It was very hard to make friends, as nearly everyone there went to the same middle school and had already made their friend groups. The academics are very rigorous, and you must be very organized to keep up. Diversity is at a minimum, and other cultures are only mentioned on International Day and one day during Black History Month. Other than that, it is a very whitewashed experience. Most of the teachers are amazing, but like all schools, there are bad apples who are only there for a paycheck or don't try to help their students. There are numerous clubs to join, and they are held during the school day so that everyone is able to take advantage of them. Sports attendance is at a high and school spirit is abundant. Every grade but 12th is required to take the PSAT so there is a better opportunity to qualify to be a National Merit scholar. Overall, a decent experience with adequate college prep.
This school is definitely one of the best magnet schools in Tennessee. Not only are multiple (most, actually) AP courses are offered, there are also plenty of college information and standardized test review materials offered by the school's guidance counselors' office. The teachers are very good at the materials they teach and are very active in students' everyday lives. Besides a very strong academic front, Hume-Fogg also offers plenty of clubs, extracurricular activities, and sports.
