Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet is a unique high school with a rich history of learning and academic excellence. The teachers are the best in the state and teach a variety of classes that adhere to college-level liberal arts curriculum. The student body reflects the ethnic, religious, and class diversity of the surrounding Nashville area. The students are also very connected with the school through extra-curriculars such as sports, clubs, and musical programs. However, the administrative and guidance departments have some problems. When approached by students that experience bullying or various forms of harassment by other students, the administration has done nothing for the victimized students to feel safe. Instead, they have pushed such problems aside and dismissed reports of threatening behavior. The guidance department is also poorly-equipped to deal with these problems and is mainly focused on forcing Hume-Fogg students toward college.
Review Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet School
I transferred to Hume-Fogg my sophomore year, and it's been everything I could ask for in a school. Caring teachers, great academic programs, amazing liberal arts coursework, and of course, a friendly, diverse student body. I felt instantly welcomed and made friends easily. One of the music programs there is actually the best in the state of Tennessee, and I feel honored being able to make music alongside some of the most hard-working individuals I have ever met. Hfa also offers a variety of Honors and AP courses to choose from, allowing you to further explore your areas of interest and experience new things. The sports division is as competitive as it gets, training vigorously, and everyone one the team supports each other. Overall, I think Hume-Fogg is a great place for students seeking a challenging school environment, a diverse student body, or a challenging sport or music program.
Hume-Fogg provided me with a rigorous liberal arts education in my 4 years of high school. Although science and math were my areas of interest, Hume-Fogg allowed me to discover my passion for humanities as well, particularly in the course of world studies. Being amongst students that were as passionate about their education as I was really pushed me to my limit and learn from my peers. Hume-Fogg has an excellent learning environment in conjunction with a close-knit family. Being an Asian-Indian student, I never felt discriminated against or unwelcome. Overall, I had an amazing high school experience.
