H.S. for Law & Justice Reviews
Rating 3.42 out of 5 159 reviews
My experience has been a great one, the school sets out to improve students on their communication, social, and leadership skills. For example, I'm in the 311 program which allows me to work at the Houston Emergency Center and take non-emergency calls. This has improved my vocal skills and has led me to work closely with Law Enforcement and 911 personnel. Other clubs that focus on improving students’ characteristics include Police explorers, BPA, and NHS. The student population is always below 500 which is fairly small compared to other high schools. It's perfect for people who prefer small classes that range from 20-30 students as it makes it easier to conversate freely with students and teachers alike. However, the school lacks participation in sports and implements school dress code strictly which brings down school spirit and creativity. Overall, the staff and principal send out a new list of scholarship opportunities every month and communicate well with their students kindly.
Great experience. Best part of my experience was having a small tight-knit class that I was able to create a bond with everyone. I would like to see more involvement with sports in the school whether that be in district or intramural. I believe high schoolers should get the chance to engage in other after school extra activities rather than having to support their zoned schools. The worst part of my experience was having to deal with COVID-19 my sophomore year and coming to a halt mid high school. I had to make adjustments to my way of learning and adapt to the idea of staying home all day and not seeing my friends. Once junior year approached and things settled, I was able to go back to school and go back to seeing people face to face, along with getting a better understanding of the curriculum because I was in a classroom setting. However, my experience at HSLJ was definitely one for the books and i'm so grateful for my time there. I made life-long friends and met great teachers.
Coming from a completely online freshman year due to Covid-19, High School for Law and Justice provided me with an amazing understanding of what an incoming student regularly manages and deals with. Sophomore year was honestly one of my best years yet. I was able to fully grasp the meaning of time management and dedication. I learned that it only gets harder in life as you’re progressing, however your academic work ethic totally makes up for it in the end. I liked that High School for Law and Justice pushes and encourages every student to excel in their classes, try one’s hardest, and show up every day regardless of any circumstance. Having nearly two more years left of high school, High School for Law and Justice has made this a truly welcoming, wonderful, and honoring experience and I believe I speak for everyone when I say this.
