I really like how open minded of a school it is. You get real life experiences with a team of teachers and counselors that have your back every step of the way and it's a very comforting experience that allowed me to grow.
The chance to take internships and classes of my choice for school credit allowed me to gain hands-on, applicable knowledge and motivated my interest in education.
I really enjoyed this school because it gave me the ability to graduate in a laid-back environment with teachers who cared. I had a really awful experience with college applications/prep and felt really alone with it. Because of covid I know they are understaffed, so no hate to the counselors, but considering every cycle people are graduating, the school needs to prioritize having a bigger college counselor team.
City As School is a great school for those who need an alternative environment to traditional school. The classes are pass or fail, so you need to be on top of your work and know that your GPA coming in is your one leaving
Teachers are very involved and supportive of kids needs. They are also willing to go the extra mile to make sure students fully understand what is being taught as well as help other student work ahead at their own pace
I loved that CityAs individualizes each student and allows them to learn at their own pace without feeling singled out and while providing one on one help!
City-As school was a wonderful place full of life, I made longtime friends and connections. It was the first place I felt truly seen and heard by teachers, and staff. I enjoyed being able to not just engage in a classroom - we also were able to engage in various internships.
Would give 5 stars
Okay so I loved this school for all the reasons that u can read about in other reviews.. but it really needs to be mentioned for potential students that we have a HUGE DRUG PROBLEM at this school.
TIP: Do not get stuck hanging out in the park across the street from the school. Avoid going there if possible. But regardless I REPEAT. DO NOT GET STUCK IN THE PARK ACROSS FROM THE SCHOOL.
It literally might ruin your life. Some kids hang there every day and become addicted to drugs, overdose and die, go to prison, never graduate. It becomes very easy to hang out there and at first it feels like you're at a party every day, until year goes by and you are depressed, using more drugs.
If you do choose to hang out in the park all day everyday, get ready to watch a bunch of your friends die over the next few years from drug overdose, suicide, or murder. Carry around Narcan. Don't use any heavy drugs, see a therapist if you need to, and get yourself out of that park.

I’m a senior at City-As School, and what I like about it is the environment. The staff doesn’t even have to know you, and they said hello, have a good day etc. Also the school has water dispensers on every floor, which is a bonus because we get fresh water daily !! The food they give us for lunch, and after school is very good as well; they come from companies or restaurants in the area. Last but not least, the teachers/staff are so understanding. They also make it such a safe space for students, where all the students feel comfortable with sharing their stories, or coming out if they need help etc
Love the Casual Atmosphere given at this school it makes high school more realistic in real world applications
City as is an alternative learning school, which means students come together from all 5 boroughs and are taught in a way that gets the student involved not only in school but life! Two days a week I go to an internship, MADACADEMY. Mad is a group of staff and students who are passionate about art, whether is be singing, film, producing or design. It stands for Music, Art, Design. In this internship we create a website to document our growth throughout the semester and show our work. Links to songs, trailers for films, social media’s. It’s a way to brand yourself as an artist. This internship has gotten me out of my shell and has pushed me to improve my musicianship. It motivates me to show up to school and learn rather than just show up to pass. Besides the internship, this school allows the student to pick their classes based on what credits they need to pass instead of being put into random classes just to prove to the state that students are in school.
City-As-School changed my life. They gave me hope to finally graduate high school. The teachers and staff really care about your success and do all hey can to help you. What I would like to see change about City as is to have more people invested into making the school known to help other young adults finish high school with a school that gives so much support.
I honestly enjoyed my time at City-As school. I was a transfer student, and when I got an enormous amount of support and was able to graduate high school in three and a half years. The reason why I did not give the school a Five start because while I was there, I didn't learn much compared to another high school or the curriculum is not as challenging. But I did have a lot of support in the college Application process and that was a requirement before graduation.
It's a school that people come to for many different reasons, but for the majority of people their previous high school experience was a bad one. CAS offers a completely different environment, being a credit/no credit school, and being an alternative school that focuses on experiential learning. A year ago, I was sure that I was going to have to become a super senior, and I wasn't sure I'd be able to go to college. I didn't see a future for myself. Now, I'm on the path to graduation and am encouraged to pursue my passions. The most important thing, to me, has been the kindness of all staff and how they take an interest in the students. Where in many schools, you may feel like the teacher only sees you as your number grade, in City-As students are made to feel like people.
Some teachers were great, some were just annoying and one somebody tazored her for being (expletives were said) useless and cruel. They had internships 2/5 days a week and most of the internships were great! Yet some of the coordinators took attitudes with me for being learning disabled and were prejudice.
City-As is an amazing school for people who want to start over. They have internships and you can choose what you want to do when you get older, it’s a good experience. The teachers and guidance counselors are the nicest people ever, they make sure that you get everything you need, make sure that you’re in great shape.
I like the program that this school offer of internships. It's giving a great experience and i get to learn alot of things.
