Howard W. Blake High School & Magnet Program Reviews

My experience at Blake was decent. I was a traditional student and I did not get the normal blake experience but it was still a good one.
My experience at Howard W. Blake High School has been a roller coaster. I’ve gone to having no teacher in a spam of 3 days to having so many experiences and opportunities regarding my future. I personally believe that being a dance major will help me in the future. It has opened me to so many opportunities that will look good in my resume, but at the same time has helped me grow as a dancer. Even though the school hasn’t been the best, it hasn’t done me wrong just yet. I’m part of Student Government Association because I want to better my school. You even could say I’m seeing a change in the school pride and how the students perceived the school. Howard W. Blake High School has it’s ups and downs, but you just have to learn how to navigate through the systems.
Howard W. Blake High School was a place that brought me growth in many ways, but overall, it was not the most incredible school, due to the faculty, administration, and teachers.
overall good school, great art magnet program and teachers. very accepting and diverse. education could be improved.
The Howard W. Blake magnet program is overall very impressive. From the music programs, dance programs, art programs, journalism, creative writing, and theater it all simply is amazing. There are so many talented artists, musicians, designers, performers, and writers. That makes the magnet program a wonderful place to be as a student and a designer.
Being apart of the magnet program is a unique experience that no other school in our county has. It is a conservatory-like environment that builds teamwork and personal skills. One of my best experiences is performing for a concert called Night of Jazz where I got to sing with a live band filled with people I had worked with the whole school year. Adding to this the chorus program that I am involved in often brings me great experience that make me feel like I have a school family. A downside is that as a Christian, I rarely meet others that have the same faith as me but instead have encounters with those who oppose my faith. Although I have had some trials because of this, I have been presented with many opportunities to share my faith with those that know nothing about it. Overall, something that I would like to see change is the depth of advising as I often feel like some of the counselors and teachers don't really put in the work to see their students succeed.
nothing got better until my senior year when we got a all girl administration and eve n then things was wild
The best part about the magnet program at Blake is that we have teachers who are best at their subject and involve us in activities that help us improve our skills. We are also around like-minded people in our majors, who want the best for the program. We also do very well in competitions related to our programs, which gives us pride in our school as well. And, in my personal experience, I really haven’t found any issues with my schools or felt any real need for change.
I gave it 5 stars, but only because I adore the art program. The teachers are very attentive and allow you to be as creative as you want to be, and you’re exposed to many different art forms, so what you go in for might not be what you end up with. You experiment with metal crafting, photography, clay and 2d art. I ended up with 2d, but if I had to choose a different major I would have done metal. Everything else is sadly sub par, but if you’re interested in the arts please look into this school, so much passion.
My Experience in the Magnet Program (for the most part) was really great. I'm so grateful to have experienced being in it because, I've met so many people from other magnet programs in the school. Because my school is so Diversely Integrated with so many other Races, It's never dull. The Best parts of my experience so far has to be the amount of collaboration that I've been able to do with people that I now can call my friends (which is super cool). The worst part of my experience has to contribute from my Major Teacher. His attitude about things were super passive aggressive sometimes, so his attitude could generally affect yours as well. Although there are things that are annoying that can't be helped around my school, I don't think anything should really change. I think i would be against change more than I would actually be for it.
Blake is a welcoming school where we all focus on our interests and we support one another. The magnet program is very beneficial because we find people who share interests vans we get to explore our passions that might turn into careers in the future.
Howard W. Blake is a really great high school. I’ve been there for 3 years now and I’m about to start my 4th and final year with them. The teachers and majors that are available are amazing and I couldn’t have asked for anything better. I’m a dance major and I love everything about it. You get so many opportunities to expand your knowledge and experiences in your classes and through field trips and they offer many courses that you can choose from. The community is great too as long as you stick with the right crowd of people. I feel like I’ve really learned and grown from my time here. Of course, every school has their flaws but if you do what you’re supposed to do there shouldn’t be an issue. I love my school and I’m kind of sad to think about my graduation coming up next year but they have prepared me well so I’m looking forward to starting the next chapter in my life. Go yellow jackets and class of 2024!!
I love how my school listens to our problems and understands us as teens and go out their ways to support us in what we believe in
Terrible school overall. Traditional school with magnet program, school rates a 4. Drugs are a concern and administrators do not sent home any information about school issues. Two lockdowns gun related.
I love being apart of the magnet program I wish other sports were as hyped us as football is and gets the same attention and love
It's a very good school for the performance art students. We our very good a school spirit and try to being here for the students and connect with them.
I have loved my time at Blake. I am in the orchestra program and could not have asked for a better instructor than Jason Jerald. He is truly inspirational and I would not be the musician I am without him. Additionally, the facilities for the arts are astounding for a high school. That being said, I think the school should be doing more academically. It is often difficult to find resources and information that is important is often not provided to students in a timely manner. Additionally, I have had personal experiences of being failed by administration throughout my years at the school. I do see some of these issues changing as we have received a new administration this year however, the re-hiring of Martha McFarland casts a shadow on the improvements within the school, as she was a strong contributor in failing to support Blake's students in her previous years at the school.
