Most of my experience with Heights came within my sophomore year as my freshman I was isolated during the lockdown. However, as I became more comfortable with the place as well as its activities, I quickly carved a place for myself that has allowed me the chance to fulfill my dream which is to wrestling at the collegiate level.
Heights High School can be a good school, that is if you get lucky enough to have good teachers and counselors. I would though recommend the Heights IB program, it’s helped me most and has been the most effective classes offered at Heights; however, the qualifications of some teachers could be questioned, along with the type of readiness certain AP and standard level teachers provide for students.
The best parts of Heights High School is the wide variety of student body that we have. The diversity throughout our school is truly what makes it unique and stand out compared to other high schools. In future years, now that the TEA has taken over I believe that this change is awesome for Heights High school as students will now be significantly more engaged and present in their learning environments. Over the three full years I have attended Heights High the only bad part about it we’re the Covid years and that is not Heights fault.
With an open mind you can have the best experience at Heights High School. Join one of the clubs or sports offered - the school most likely offers something you are interested in already - to meet new friends.
Most of the teachers are caring and will help you succeed if you are motivated to do so. Yes, you will have homework assignments and if you are taking AP/ IB/Dual Credit/ Honors or PreAP/PreIB classes you might have a lot of homework to do after school. But these are designed to help you succeed in your classes and in college/ AP/ IB tests. As a junior and senior in good standing (attendance, good discipline, passing classes and STAAR exams) you will have the privilege of being able to have lunch off campus.
However, the school is pretty big, so, if you are not getting actively involved, you can be "unseen" during your years here.

I think the strong suit of this high school is the community. The waiver day fairs we have once a month encompass the student body of clubs. Student-led clubs are able to sell food on these days, and it's awesome to take part in. The energy you put in will feel rewarding.
Academic-wise, this school has some rough edges. I would say I haven't had many "bad" teachers, but some classes are not led the best. I think the IB program has too much of unfair advantage in rankings, including a 5 point study hall class. I've always completed my work and there usually is enough time to finish work while in school.
Another strong suit is the start time, which is at 8:30. We also have an option for off-campus lunch for juniors and seniors. It's great to be able to take advantage of the schedule.

The thing I liked the most about this school was the helpfulness it provided to all students. The teachers, administration, and the counsellors are all there to help the students. Even when the kids are too scared to ask for help, they go to them personally to ask if everything's okay.
Good environment, lots of opportunities to make friends, a variety of clubs which is good so everyone can find something of interest.
My school is actually a charter school. It may not be the best high school, but at the same time, it feels just right for me. Luckily, it's a small school school which makes a lot of things way easier. I love how they don't intentionally give out homework, because the teachers love to interact with the students through class work and discussions to make sure that we understand fully. Our events (homecoming, senior auction, awards day, etc.) may not be like other schools, but the teachers know how to make it fun for every one. I'm chief editor of the yearbook staff, meaning not only do I get to take photos and videos at the events, but I also get to assist in school activities. One thing I don't like is how most of the students over there are less outgoing and afraid to have fun, because they think people will judge them. That's understandable, though. Overall, my school is really good and unique in its own type of way. The building may be a small, but we know how to pull it off.
My daughter graduated from Huston Heights in 2007 and after graduating college she is a successful school counselor. All of these accomplishments wouldn't be possible without the foundation, dedicated teachers and college career readiness she received from her high school years.
I loved the small classes and every teacher knew you by name! I loved the flexibility the teachers always provided. Also, I liked how some classes were lectured and others were based off an online system.
