once a year we have pi day, and during one year they had a nasty pizza instead of their usual pie. i was disappointed to say the least.
DO NOT GO!
TEACHERS ARE RUDE, GIVE UNFAIR GRADES, AND NOTHING TO DO!
THE LUNCH IS TERRIBLE BECAUSE THERE WAS MOLD INSIDE OF THE CHEESE AND OTHER THINGS! IF YOU LIKE RATS THEN YOU SHOULD GO BECAUSE THERE ARE LOTS OF RATS IN THE CAFETERIA

The school was pretty good. Ms. Crooks is great. Mrs. Khosla is great. Pay attention to Mrs. Fitz because her class actually does come in handy later on. If you try, the experience and pay off is really good.
I enjoy this school, as it provides us students with college and career readiness. Something that could improve is the fact that there are no official foreign language classes. As of now, all we have is a Rosetta Stone program (which is optional) and the teacher in charge of it is nowhere near fluent in Spanish. The academics are made to challenge your abilities, and HALS is a great student for gifted children.
I have a friend in my Homeroom and the teacher constantly calls him out. Some students wouldn't bring in their permission slips and out of all the students, he was the ONLY one THREATENED with a detention if he didn't bring it in the next day.
They have measures for everything and the teachers and principal work together to enforce them.
There is a lot of things to do for people with many interests and really showing that you can do many things and manage it with academics will lead to success.
I love the big commitment with the fine arts and academics and the best part is that the involvement in fine arts is apropos to their academic excellence. Best school in New Britain, and one of the best in the state and we have awards to prove that. I loved the talent shows and how students work together no matter age or where they are from.
A school with very small class sizes which has the teachers establishing connections and giving a lot of time that need help. This school requires a lot of work ethic not just intelligence. They respect effort given by students and admire many traits and skills especially leadership skills. There is a lot of opportunity to do well and they know how well there students do and work so they can do better.
There wasn't many programs. Most clubs were science based, such as the Science Olympiad and Metacomet. We also didn't have many sports whatsoever.
The school challenged me intellectually. It was a good school for learning, but there really wasn't many after school programs and opportunities. I would go to this school again if I could do it all over because the good education I received outweighs the fact that it didn't have many programs.
The teachers were very approachable when a student needed help and they were always willing to help.
I definitely would choose to go to HALS again. It was the best place for me to grow intellectually, and I formed really strong friendships there I don't think I would have at other schools.
