Houma Junior High School Reviews
Rating 3 out of 5 3 reviews
My experience at HJH was a lackluster one. The teachers cared very little for making sure their students knew the material, especially the Algebra 1 and Geometry honors teacher. Students were told to ask questions, and then made to feel unintelligent when there could be an underlying problem, such as dyscalculia. Faculty did absolutely nothing about the bullying that was pervasive within the school even when brought to their attention. From what I have heard, they still do not. The community within the school was a cold one. Students were extremely homophobic and divided based on race. The only saving grace that I have for that school is that I met my two closest friends there. Other than that, the school needs to fix the many, many issues that it has.
Houma Junior High was very mediocre. A lot of the times, the AC and heating were broken. There was not enough space for the amount of students in attendance, so most classes were crowded and hard to learn in. Academics were easy, but only because the level of learning was subpar. To improve, they can offer more rigorous courses and build extensions to accommodate the volume of students. One thing I commend the school on, however, is the lack of bullying. There was a sense of harmony and unity amongst all students, and it made the middle school experience very relieving.
My experience at Houma Jr. High school was really great. The teachers were so good and dedicated to helping me reach my goals. They understood my high expectations for myself and did not try to tear me down. They were always kind. The staff is really dedicated to what they do. They are always making sure everyone is in the right position, doing the right thing. I would have loved to have the experience of getting to know the kids in other grades but other than that, I am grateful for everything they've provided and supported me with.
